Who genuinely thought we'd be going into the season potentially with just 2 new outfield players in the squad.

*changed to 2. I'd forgotten hutchinson.

We undoubtedly vastly improved squad quality when Cook came in. Trouble is. It took till nearly January to get them all playing together. Mid table consolidation this season would only be a disaster for the bedwetter brigade.

I don't think there will be many supporters expecting more than a mid table season tbh.

Not sure what gamechanger would expect though.

No ones talking of whole sale changes BB

But only 2 new players a whole squad is quite low, no?

Wanting signings for the sake of signings is the mark of one who needs plastic bedding.

Lest we forget, Ashton has said there's likely another 2-3 to come in. We're never going secure all our number 1 targets, very few teams outside the European elite do.

Summer 2000, we signed Martijn Reuser, John Scales, Guillermo Graaven, Nail Abidallah and Hermann Hreidersson having been promoted with a well-drilled squad with an established style of play and excellent team spirit.

Go change your sheets lad.

Progress is what GC expect. Midtable, a division higher would be progress.

Unless you're some kind of bedwetter desperately looking for some kind of negative angle to hot-take over like a feeble TalkingBlues tribute act.

No need to change any sheets, you're clearly just confused by what is meant by the post.

I get the frustration but I keep it to myself. New signings are exciting but there's another month to go and premiership teams are still sorting their squads out. Be patient, and trust in the club. Just look at January.

We're targeting players that other promotion contenders also want. We're going to miss out on some of them.

The days of signing the likes of Giles Coke are over.

Not looking for an argument but you are talking about the lack of signings but at the same time had a real issue with the club asking local media to keep quiet about Hirst until it was done.

I'm sure that by the end of the window we will have a competitive squad. Evans used to say we would have a competitive squad. Not sure what he thought that word meant but we certainly weren't competing at the top for most of his reign.

Truly impaired.

No, you just seem keen to mention that poster.

I've already said I have 0 expectations about where we finish this season.

I'm 50 50 on if GC would just want progress as a target tho. That's not ambitious enough imo. But only they know.

I found an old post of mine from 31st May which said - “I think we only need a couple of additions, a few tweaks but nothing drastic.” - fair to say it has been exactly a window as I expected and how I wanted it to go.

This squad is full of quality, consistency and momentum - there was absolutely no need to make huge changes.

I’ve seen enough last year to believe this group can compete very well in the Championship.

Cook and, to a lesser extent, Hurst have made people a bit weird about transfer windows here.

Continuity, even when you're going up(or down) a division is king. Adding to the squad players who'll enhance and broaden your squad depth rather than whole sale change EVERY F**KING WINDOW is not necessary.

I think this window is seen unfavourable to many as Town have seemingly been rejected for another club at our level, as it hasn't happened for a while. Compare that to recent windows whilst in League One, where we were able to attract numerous Championship standard players who surely had interest from elsewhere (Walton, Clarke, Edmundson, Morsy, Luongo, Broadhead, possibly Ball and Chaplin).

For me, that's where the slight negativity and pessimism about it is coming from, as it was not present until the rumours surrounding McNally started to gain momentum.

ETA - we probably have missed out on players in previous years to League One rivals but haven't heard about it.

We wouldn't be trying to sort out 2/3 new additions if we were only interested in continuity. You are correct it's important but so is squad quality.

Our starting 11 imo finishes top 10 maybe top 6.

But outside of that starting 11...

Altho the first team squad are not going to be injured all at once. Quite a few of the "second string" have Championship experience (or higher, including top Scottish/overseas divisions) and are capable of putting in good performances. Or they're good young prospects, like Humphreys and Baggott.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Sorry for delay.

Yeah my bad I forgot about hutch.

I'm really sorry, but if you're gonna start a thread complaining about the number of outfield signings, you have to ensure that you haven't just conveniently forgotten half of them.

Getting Hirst permanently is also surely to be taken into account. We had him for a season, we may or may not have got him back on loan in League One, but we now have him as our player.

Nobody wanted a Hurst or Cook bonfire, surely. Steady business. Yes we've not yet got our CB. That is not the end of the world. If we do no more business at all and then have a January window even half as good as last time, I'd be ecstatic.

Not really a complaint tbh. More being surprised.

I don't personally agree with the Hirst Luongo signings being accounted for as they were already here last season. The point was adding new quality to the squad.

Anway as said and others have said there's still plenty of time. I'm just personally surprised we've not had more before the first game.

( in usual frimmers form. This leads to 3 signings this week)

Not at all. You can have a discussion about town that's not fluffy without it being panic stations etc

Of course it's great we've resigned the likes of hirst and luongo. But on actually strenghing the side of last season we have taylor who I do like btw. And hutch who I'd forgotten about who's exciting but raw.

I don't think it'll be long before we do more. I just personally didn't think we'd potentially be going into the first game with pretty much the same side we had the league below. Which whilst it was of course successful, was still the league below.

I know some have given stick on this thread but nothing you posted here is unfair.

Personally, I don't really feel the need to be negative about Town going into the season regardless of lack of signings but it should be ok to discuss how the transfer window has gone without being extreme one way or the other

I'd rather take our time and get the right players. These signings aren't for the first few games of the season, they're for several years.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
