With Burns injured... 06:56 - Sep 11 with 4802 views | ITFCBlues | Who do we think starts at Sheff Wed? Jackson? Or do we think Hutchinson is ready to start now? My concern with Hutchinson is can he do the defensive work?

With Burns injured... on 09:28 - Sep 11 by tractorboy1978 | Yes, sounded precautionary. Mate of mine saw him walking yesterday so obviously nothing major! |
Big difference between walking and kicking a ball though. Notoriously tricky things - best to get it 100% right before returning (I’m sure our medical team will).

With Burns injured... on 10:01 - Sep 11 by StokieBlue | I'm not sure this is really very fair. Both Burns and Jackson give the odd ball away (at a minimum), it's more the contributions going forward that they are measured on and it should be the same for Hutchinson. I'm that department I think he's ready and I think he's only going to improve. Doesn't mean he will play ahead of Jackson whom I've always supported, just think comparisons should try and be fairly equal. SB |
Hutchinson has got better with each appearance for us and was very good against Cardiff. I think he'll start ahead of Burns soon regardless of Burns injury.

Of course but he would not be walking freely if he had a bad hamstring injury. [Post edited 11 Sep 2023 10:34]

With Burns injured... on 10:36 - Sep 11 with 1117 views | tractorshark | Jackson will replace Burns. Hutchinson is still bedding in. If Hirst isn’t fit, Ladapo will get the nod up front after his performance against Cardiff with Scarlett to come on.

With Burns injured... on 09:56 - Sep 11 by GlasgowBlue | Yeas. If a Hirst is injured then Jackson definitely through the middle like last year’s game. Scored one and forced an own goal for our second. They couldn’t cope with him. Even with Hirst fit, KM may chose Jackson. |
If I remember rightly, KJ played on the left and TJJ played in a withdrawn number nine role at Hillsborough.

I think that's right actually. If I had to guess, assuming both Burns and Hirst miss out, I suspect he'll go: Hladky Clarke Woolfenden Burgess Davis Morsy Luongo Jackson Chaplin Broadhead Ladapo Which when you think about it might be quite different to the preferred starting line up we start seeing over the coming months, what with injuries etc (I'm sure Walton, Williams, Taylor, Hirst, Burns, Tuanzebe will all be vying for starts before long). Shows the depth we have now.

It does. I wonder if he might look at using Broadhead in a similar role to TJJ on Saturday but perhaps not do it with NB away for the early part of the week and having had two games and travelling this week. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

^^^This^^^ on 09:01 - Sep 11 by BlueBoots | If Sheffield Wednesday want to play a high defensive line, Jackson will make them think twice about it and could punish them if they do. If they're going to allow us possession and get everyone behind the ball, might be more of a game for Hutchinson. Nice to have options even if Burns is out |
Yes good point. I think when we played Jackson up front they were playing on the front foot and top of League One, and it was at home. Suggest they may have gone into their shell a little this seasons given the start.. so maybe Hutchison is preferred. but I think McKenna likes Jackson pace first.

Although, of course, Wednesday are under new management this year, so last year's approach will probably not come into it too much.

I don’t think I’m being unfair. Both Jackson and Burns are far more experienced than Hutchinson. From what I’ve seen, Hutchinson has the potential to become a superb Premier League player but he is still raw and prone to lapses in concentration. He’s a work in process and KM will ease him in the same way he did TJJ last season. [Post edited 11 Sep 2023 13:45]

Hutchinson has the elk genital? That's one of the best typos/autocorrects I've ever seen.

Lapses in concentration is quite different to giving the ball away though, that's what I was replying to. I'd be more inclined to agree with that although we only have a small subset of data. I'd also start Jackson given he's been excellent when called upon this season. My main point was that they also give the ball away a quite a bit but now we have expanded the metric that's fine. I also think the other SBs point about tracking back and positioning is very relevant. SB

With Burns injured... on 13:39 - Sep 11 with 907 views | itfcsuth | Jackson for me. Has often performed very well under KMc (largely from that right hand side role). Hutchinson has shown bright sparks, but still work to be done to break in to the side form the start.

Yes. Be interesting to see what Wednesday do against us. They 'know' us well but does that really mean anything these days? Also, new manager. I suspect they'll take a middle of the road approach. I'd probably start Jackson too, I think.

I love this club, its infrastructure and its personnel. COYB!

Certainly a very good time to be a Town fan right now isn't it? Relative to yesteryear successes perhaps not, but the game has changed a lot since then and frankly that's of little significance in the here and now. To be sitting 22nd in the football pyramid right now, playing the way we are, delivering the entertainment value we are, with such a young and exciting manager at the helm and a talented and tight knit group of players. Not to mention the owners who are willing to invest in the club, it's infrastructure, its role in the community. A far cry from where we were just a few years ago. Thoroughly enjoyable and long may it continue.
