Isn’t it? Electric first half. Power cut second half.

I wouldn't say power cut, although certainly much more tepid. I don't think we retreated in the 2nd like we have in other games - hard to explain. Of course, these last 10 minutes could obliterate this assesment.

Same can be said of the crowd. From loud to library within 15 minutes of a HT break.

Reverted to type haven't we.

Hopefully this is where new coaching will make a difference.

We start brightly then run out of ideas.

Results are not inconsistent as things stand. They’re quite consistent in fact; we’ve forgotten how to win.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Yes.

This absolutely needs to be eradicated as a priority. I have no data but I’d hedge a guess that we’d be third if we didn’t throw away leads.

You can see it coming and we are just unable to react to it. Maybe that’s a bit harsh as it was only 5 mins into the second half but we need to be consistent and know how to react to pressure by tweaking or switching things up. This will come down to coaching and in game management.

I’d have taken a point before the game but we all know this isn’t enough now to save this season.

Roll on the project.

We deffo competed in 2nd half and Sunderland improved the reality is that we need to produce performances like thst every game and not just against the better sides when crowds are big, we would normally applaud a 1-1 against a 3rd place team but cos of our situation we dont perform like this and needed 3 points, fittness is deffo a reaskn for 2nd half drops but this wasnt a power cut

We deserved more. But the self-belief and confidence in the team isn’t there.

Generally, Sunderland played averagely. But they were really, really good and purposeful when they needed to be.

I think a genuine promotion team moves from a focus on performances to a focus on results. They may play well from time to time but they’re focused on the points. We’re a step or two back and we’re just trying to play better and feel more confident.

Our best outlets, Burns and Norwood, didn’t have the fitness to keep making the same runs in the second half. Given neither has played recently not too surprising.

Thought Sunderland were a lot better too but we did give them a really soft goal to get them going.

How was the goal soft?

It was the best 5 seconds of football in the game.

More we opened up very easily for the second time in a couple of minutes, not seen it back so might be harsh but a few missed challenges in there.

We were never going to be as good second half as we were first unfortunately. They were always going to get a chance or two.

As said below as well, Burns and Norwood were never going to last and they were important to how we played first half.

This season is well and truly over. Therefore we have to assume the focus is on next season. Big big gamble but cannot pin anything from this shower on the new coaching staff.

20 games to make up 9 or 10 points is a big ask but not impossible. But at no time in the last 18 months have we looked like a team that can put a run of games together. We can’t even put two good halves together, sadly.

No. I think we’re seeing exactly why a Sunderland side can look so average against us can be way ahead in the league.

Because when the moment appeared, they took it.

We’ve not scored that type of goal all season.
