I didn't know about this but it's horrible. The forceful deportation of Chinese merchant seaman who helped the war effort straight after the end of the war is awful.

They didn't even tell the families they had been deported:

"A family friend remembers Kinnin’s mum saying, “Oh he’s stayed out playing mah-jong, because all his clothes are still there. There’s no problem.” But he never came home."

"Where mysteries remain, it is because the British state determined that we should not know — and that wives and children would live out their lives, in some cases, their whole lives, never knowing."


The families left here weren't even given social support because marrying a Chinese man meant that the British wives became "aliens".
