Yesterday’s loss will be a blessing 08:50 - Aug 1 with 3687 views | EricsGate | Brings the supporter base back down to earth with a bit of a bump! As MA said, it’s going to take time, and when things are going well, manage the highs and when we lose, don’t get too low. All is good and will progress, bring on morecombe. But we’ve been a team that’s played without any real confidence or momentum for over 3 years – so it’ll only be a useful reality check if we build on it in the league. Personally, I’m going to give Cook and the new team 3 months to see what they’re really made of. |
I’m sure that now you have given them your blessing for three months they will be full of joy! What are you going to do after that if it isn’t a good start?

Well, hopefully we won't have to do anything because the owners will make the decision to relieve Cook of his duties, should that situation arise.

Yesterday’s loss will be a blessing on 18:24 - Aug 1 by clive_baker | It was only a couple of days ago Cook was lauding the significance of equalising against Colchester on the basis that winning (or not losing) games is habitual, and people on here running with that narrative. Now a defeat is healthy because it keeps us grounded, which somewhat contradicts that. There’s certainly an element of saying the right things that people want to here to be honest, which is fair enough, but I don’t think anyone should read too much into Cook’s comments or indeed pre season results generally. Friendly results mean absolutely nothing, they’re glorified training sessions. It wasn’t long ago people were brimming at watching Downes, Dozzell and Nydam popping the ball around West Ham, and look how that turned out. The real business starts Saturday, bring it on. |
Important to note Paul Cook himself I don't believe has stated that a loss is healthy - unless I have missed something. Cook did state that it was a tough day, he stated he was disappointed with the result - but never that the result would be a blessing. He merely stated we are a work in progress still - we've had a huge turnover in players, a lot of talented individuals arrive, but still only 5/6 weeks pre season and 4 pre season games - he is not wrong, it is a work in progress, absolutely.

Eh? My blessing?! What happens after that? Well, I’ll have three months of evidence to draw on. So I’m guessing that will inform my view.
