Tax payer of course, like we always do.

fair point both. Is Switzerland financially large enough for that though? Or maybe it would be a global thing if it came to it. But then again hasn't Deutsche Bank been in trouble over the last few years too?

They bailed out UBS in 2008 and did rather well out of it.

They made CHF 5bn when they eventually sold their stake.

UBS down 12% this morning apparently - who rescues them if they go bust?

Share price dented, yes. But that's not the same as going bust. They are still a vast banking institution which made profits of $7.6bn last year.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

No clearly not, but its quite a striking reaction to last nights deal. The Swiss govt put in £50b last week which doesn;t seemed to have helped much - I read £10b was withdrawn on Friday alone, so the sums seem vast to me.

But to put those numbers in perspective UBS had over US 1trn in assets as of last year.

Their share price fell much more severely during the pandemic.

Of course, these mass destabilising withdrawals could be economic warfare by Russia (or China) ...

Hmm, you may have something there

I did wonder what that foreign looking chap with the fur hat and snow on his boots was doing lurking around the cash machine on Saturday.
