Chaplin goal 21:28 - Aug 20 with 3147 viewspelles321

For anyone who watched the warm up, it was obvious what was going to happen. At the end of shooting practice, Chaplin stood roughly where he did for his goal, and asked the ball to be played low across to him from the left. Each time he whipped it low into the bottom corner. He knew where he wanted to be if the match scenario presented itself.

Fail to prepare….

He is absolutely class! I know plenty of people say he is the best finisher at the club (and rightly so!) But for me, his best attribute is that Frank Lampard type late run into the box.

The reason he gets his goals is that he can read the game so well that he sets himself before the ball has even reached him.

No doubt he will be pushing double figures again this season and a player that will no doubt smash it in the division above for us.....if we can keep him!

Agreed, real quality player, every team in this division would love to have him, and plenty in the Championship too.

He's a great watch. Even little things, for example when he receives the ball from a throw in close to the thrower, he likes to instantly switch play on the volley out of nothing - it often catches teams off guard and gets us on the break. Fernandes at United does it but I haven't seen many others do it.

Poll: Pick a goal to win the derby in stoppage time...

Any town fan who doesn’t appreciate Chaplin needs to have a little word with themselves.

We’re extremely lucky to have him.

Both on and off the field.

I had him down as MOM.. I think he's an absolute pest for defenders. And , tbf, I thought he kept our right hand side going, at times today. KVY had a pretty decent game, by imo, JD looked a bit off his normal high standards.
What I like most about Chaplin, when he's in a shooting position. He doesn't mess about. Usually it's a first time snap shot, or minimal touches. He's got the knack of setting himself and not getting the ball caught in his feet. Very instinctive finisher. But his work rate, along with our other forwards was really good today, too. They pressed in a swarm and just smothered Shrews from playing it out effectively or picking a long pass...
Chaplin is definitely one of our main men though. We're lucky to have him.. Not to mention all the off field stuff he does for Comminty

What a strange thing to say.
...
Are there any Town fans that don't appreciate him???

Yes.

Does my comment not seem so strange now?

One of his greatest qualities is his ability to find space between the opposition midfield and defence. Teams are finding it difficult to mark him. Occasionally he is a bit too ambitious with a pass, but he does try to unlock a defence. McKenna said that he fancies himself as a centre forward, but I think he is best suited playing just behind the main striker.

The mention of practice reminds me of something George Burley said. He said he used to practice crossing a lot so that he could knock the ball on Paul Mariner's head without really thinking. It's sensible really but it makes you think that practice is one area of our game that we have neglected in recent years. Let's hope it finally bears fruit with corners.

Side note.. Is it me, or has Chaplin bulked up a bit? Imo, a few of them have. Chaplin and Edwards look a bit more solid in physique . It could be my imagination. But got me thinking that KM has got a few of them in the weights room through pre-season. Especially after talk of "robustness"..
Regardless,.. Our fitness guys are doing a great job on the squad. We seem to come on strong as games progress, when opponents tend to tire. And I don't think its soley down to bringing subs on.... Evans, for instance, looks re-born fitness wise. Much sharper and covering more ground.. And, in general, we are not getting bullied about. The last two matches, against physical opponents , were a test , in that respect. Which we came through nicely.

What do they do all week then? Cross country runs and a game of rounders?

I suspect he might be one of the next ones to be offered a new deal.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Chappers reminds me somewhat of Eric Gates. He had great feet and instinctively found himself in good positions and never spurned the chance of getting a shot away. Thankfully he hasn’t developed little Eric’s habit of diving in the box.
