Loved this place since being an early adopter back in 1996.. but time to leave.. thanks Phil/Gav

It had a real comradery back then and to ride that Burley wave as a group was just joyous

But as per some other recent posters have stated, its gone the way of many things on the internet/society, its all about trolling and negativity and belligerence and nasty and disrespect being a badge of honour.

See you on the other side... and just remember:

- Trump is dangerous and is the thin end of the wedge for not just the US but the world, call him out!
- McCarthy was a great man manager, could spot a player, but its a perfectly valid opinion to suggest he was never going to progress us
- Organisations succeed with a clear vision, strategy and objectives and Marcus has failed us in this, and the selections he has made in his management team
- We won't succeed until we have the right technical/tactical manager and footballing ethos running through the club
- We're all blue brothers and sisters, we all have different opinions, but its fans forum for Ipswich Town, not a Twitter feed for slagging each other off
- Comte is the cheese of champions

See you in the Premier League... byeeeeeee

I don't think these belittling posts are helpful when people are genuinely fed up with this place, Glassers. It's rarely true they return the next day and they deserve a bit more respect than that. Someone said similar to me and I didn't return for a month and a half (and that was literally 3 words, helping someone with a film title).

People (and Phil especially) should be thinking about why so many long term posters are leaving (whether either for good or extended periods) IMO. This place has been as bad as it's ever been lately, and it's a shame. It seems to be going the way of twitter - a good idea at the time, but increasingly fractious at best and nasty at worst.

Perhaps a winning football team might help unite us, and the first game has been nothing but positive so fingers crossed on that. Maybe everyone's gone a bit loopy due to Covid. Dunno. There definitely seems a lot more assholery lately.

To be fair, Phil does bring the hammer down very swiftly when needed.

I actually find it's the longer term posters that we constantly see bickering, always trying to out do eachother from long term feuds....

Just think as a whole , society has to have some good old fashioned respect for others drilled back into it

Call me old fashioned but treat those how they treat you

The world would be a far better place with a lot more respect for others and their opinions without hiding behind keyboards

It's really simple...isn't it ?

I think generally we could all have a beer and get on in person but online behaviour is very different to real world behaviour and it's easy for any of us to get dragged down into it sometimes.

I think when an argument/debate breaks out then it's really easy for people to get nasty/immature/stupid in their response to a faceless name etc.

I think people also behave differently towards the club/players/manager etc then they would in person.

Just generally things escalate an led get toxic on a board when they likely wouldn't face to face where normally there is a bit more respect and restraint.

There are still things I love about this board but there are many times I've had enough also. We'll see what happens if we have a better season...

I think the OP has the same frustrations as me. It's not about abuse (we're big boys). It's more about wanting to be part of a group of people supporting their football team and it's become more of a place to come and slag people off and find fault. Obviously our club has been through tough times and their is criticism that is completely fair. But it goes way over the top imo.

But others are welcome to have the opinion that it's all fair game and anything goes.

Why do you feel it's your view that is correct? You haven't got exclusivity over peoples views. It's a forum. It's a place of views or there would be no point to it.

I think the point is the way they're delivered.

Personally, I am of the opinion that the problem with internet forums/twitter is the lack of accountability for actions. You can hide behind usernames and avatars and treat people with a complete disregard for their feelings with little comeuppance. A lot of people would not express themselves in real life in the same way. It is why I read TWTD but rarely engage.

Have to disagree with you (and the OP) about twitter, I find it largely extremely positive, not least because it has a total block facility which means that you can stop abusive people from seeing your posts at all, so you can put an end to any persistent baiting etc.

However, I certainly agree with your first para.

A few posts similar to Unstable's do seem to have cropped up regularly over the past few weeks, but as some have said in response to those, the kind of disrespect & trolling that he's referred to have always been present on the forum, and in fact in some respects I remember it being a lot worse 20 or so years ago, particularly regarding sexism and homophobia - that improvement is a credit to the forum. Some abuse obviously does still happen, and while it's tempting to let off steam in a road-rage manner for some behind the mask of anonymity, I really hope the umprovement can continue further (I include myself in that, as in some ways I've been slow to adapt to internet forum life).

No-one can read everything on here, plenty of insults tend to go unnoticed, so some will always be puzzled by others' views of various posters. And sometimes generally good contributors don't leave from choice - ban hammer, work, health, family committments etc. may cause them to depart. Where it is a choice because of the 'tone' of the board, haven't most people felt like leaving at some point? I know I have, but hang on to the fact that a while a bad atmos may be caused by a small number of people, there are hundreds of other regulars who aren't like that, but are actually rather lovely.

Peace, lurve, and a looo-oong winning streak for Town! 🤞🏼

I don’t disagree but what more can Phil, Gav do? I’m sure they don’t need this cr*p and didn’t sign up to be carers. They do an admirable job.

It’s our responsibility as humans isn’t it? It’s a message board for a division 3 football club (without being too dismissive of the team we love). They are fully in their rights to sack it off if they wanted and remove any affiliation with the club.

I totally agree it's the responsibility of everyone on here, that's kind of what my post was about. But I do think Phil's been rather lenient over the years and should be less tolerant of serial abusers. I know lots of people who don't post on here because of the abuse (or the perception of it).

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

I think some of these posters complaining about how bad it is haven't done a lot to make it any better themselves, indeed some have made things worse. There's plenty of good discussion on here still, a few trolls but you get that with any forum unfortunately and they're not always easy to weed out.

Just the other day you called me "brainless" and "pathetic" amongst other things for daring to point out that our steepest decline over the past 20 years came under Lambert's watch, with a big assist from Hurst, over the past 2 years. I didn't refer to you as being pathetic or lacking in brain power for taking issue with that fact. At no point did I insult you on that thread. So it really is a bit much for you to be pontificating on this issue.

Edit - here is the thread, you also called mine and others' views "nonsense" despite us putting forward reasonable arguments:
How do we ultimately fix ITFC? by BrixtonBlue 1 Sep 2020 14:27
Because let's be honest, Lambert isn't the main problem. Manager after manager has struggled to get a decent tune, let alone any success, out of the sh!tshow he's been left by the previous incumbent.

I can't be too pissed off with Evans either. I've agreed with every managerial appointment at the time, and why we all want him to put in more money to sign better players, he is keeping us going and has put more money into the club than anyone else in history.

So what actually needs to change?

Well the football climate has changed, money-wise. But there's something to be said for having not only knowledgable football people running the club, but people with a deep care for the club. A care like us fans have.

So it seems to me, we need the following;

1. A very rich person or consortium to take the reins off Evans and pump more cash in than he can.

2. Proper football people to come back and run things, like the Cobbolds did. If part 1 was realised I'd bring Sheepshanks back. Yes he made mistakes, but he knows football, knows and loves the club. This might include getting someone like Burley back... or giving Dyer a chance. People who bleed blue. Because they're obviously going to give more than the next hopeful on the managerial conveyor belt. I hear that Lambert doesn't really have relationships with the players. That's like the opposite of Sir Bobby, and may be why it hasn't worked with most of the managers in the Evans era. When we've worked well it's been when people involved in the club are people who love it. Otherwise we're just A.N.Other FC.

3. I think Jim Magilton was onto something when he made that dossier about The Ipswich Way. We've lost that, lost what made Ipswich 'Ipswich.' Those values gave us an edge, to punch above our weight. Mick McCarthy is the best manager we've had in 20 years - and that says it all. His football (and I'm not really knocking him because he did the best he could with the tools he was given) was not the Ipswich way.

Erm, end of rant.

Calling a view nonsense or pathetic isn't abuse. I'd only descend to "brainless" to someone who'd given me grief previously. You are one of those posters who get abusive or patronising/condescending because you can't handle people having a different opinion to you.

We had a discussion over PM's on one such issue... and when I put points to you you couldn't answer you shut the discussion down.

I know I have my faults. You really ought to look at yourself in the mirror. I'm far from the only poster who's noticed it.

The thread is there for all to see Dollers. Perhaps you can justify calling me brainless to yourself because of some perceived history, but it's a bit rich for you to be complaining about others ruining the board when you engage in precisely the behaviour you're now calling out

I ended our PM discussion because you had no desire to hear what I was saying so there really wasn't much point in continuing it. Myself and a few others had made similar points to you but you simply weren't having it. There was no merit in dragging it on.

I genuinely have no wish to go back and forth with you on this. But perhaps if you don't like the tone of debate on here you should start a little closer to home rather than calling out others. If you want to tell people they are talking nonsense and call them brainless and pathetic I don't have an issue with that, but when you then try to take the moral high ground that's a bit much and I'll call it out.

Have a good day.

Indeed it is there for all to see. And so are ALL your threads. I'm not plucking out one thread in isolation, I'm talking about your overall posting style.

I always listen to what people have to say. You didn't want to continue the discussion on PM because I had you in a position where you couldn't answer, anything else is a lie on your behalf.

Once again you use the "have a good day" line - which basically says, "I'm having my say and I'm not interested in any comeback."

Anyway, I'm off to the Lake District now so there won't be any back and forth anyway. I'll leave others to decide if I have a point.

Why do people feel that every discussion has to be "won" by somebody? Why is it a good thing to put people in their place? Can you not just have a discussion without one of you "winning"? I think you both need to have a think about what you are doing here. It is rather childish and a perfect example of why some people no longer engage.

It may not be abusive, but neither is it very friendly is it! Part of the thing with social media is that we don’t really know each other and so it’s easy to assume something that meant in a half joking, joshing way is a full on insult. How we might talk in the pub to people we know may not be the best way to talk to people we don’t know on a forum!
