New Manager 14:15 - Dec 10 with 2893 views | geg1992 | Perhaps I'm seeing this through my blue tinted spectacles, but with many names being ruled out, I'm surprised, as I thought this would be a very appealing job for many. In league one of course, but: We have one of the largest fan bases in the league. We have one of the largest budgets in the league. We have (Arguably), the best players in the league with crazy depth. Although I'm wondering if this is true at the moment. We have Takayama, which is a fantastic restaurant. I'd have thought that this would be really appealing for someone, as there is a real long term vision too. Surely someone like Lampard would see this is as a great opportunity for his CV? Not saying I'd want him, but just an example. Phil's story suggests that he'd want to be in the Championship at the lowest, but that seems strange seeing as we have the players and budget to get there, we just need the right man to guide us.

New Manager on 14:20 - Dec 10 with 2408 views | jayessess | I don't think the fact those various managers have been ruled out is a sign the job isn't attractive. Most of the names on the list it's likely our choice not to pursue them. Can see why Lampard wouldn't want it - very easy to pigeonholed as a lower league manager.

New Manager on 14:21 - Dec 10 with 2393 views | DavoIPB | Far too big a risk for a high profile manager. No chance of promotion this year and every chance of a bottom half finish. Our players are not that good and maybe with Ashton in charge it's not as an appealing prospect as some think. He doesn't have a record for appointing high profile managers, more for promoting coaches from witrin the team or mates of his.

I think you're right, I am definitely seeing it with Blue tinted specs. This is real world and not football manager after all!

Also some might have looked at how much time Cook got and now have second thoughts.

If Lampard is looking to come back into management then what club/league is he waiting to come available? Aside from West Ham he probably won’t go to another London club and I would have thought he wants something close to the capital. On that basis I would therefore thought that geographically we would fit. Money/salary/budgets would also be box ticked so the League 1 status is perhaps the only fly in the ointment. Which club are they going to go where they can be a good 8/9 places off stated expectations and expect significantly more time?

New Manager on 14:45 - Dec 10 with 2207 views | clive_baker | I think it would be a very attractive job. We're arguably in the top 15 clubs outside of the Premier League, we've got deep pockets, some very good players, decent fan base and history and we've done sod all for ages, so it's a great opportunity for someone to come in and wake the club up from it's slumber. Much more attractive than we were under ME.

To be fair, that's a pretty big fly in the ointment to someone of his profile.

New Manager on 14:57 - Dec 10 with 2080 views | ElephantintheRoom | Hmmm - best take a deep breath and consider reality. Ipswich is a small Town club that has effectively been in decline for forty years. Ipswich is a small Town a long way from anywhere that has been the death of ambitious young managers with personality disorders, tired old lags and third division wannabees - anyone taking the job in recent decades has effectively kissed goodbye to their career. The club has allegecly contrived to lose £100million in just over a decade whilst dropping from the second to third divisions The club is now the property of a pension fund in a foreign land seeking a return, burdened by being bought by three chancers with borrowed money seeking financial gain who have effectively delegated responsibility to two more chancers seeking a windfall - O'Leary and Ashton who fooled them into buying the club. That is a huge parastic load for a big club - let alone a moribund small Town club in the third division. The last manager was encouraged to gut the club by the clueless chancers with the promise of a long term commitment..... which lasted four months. Given the above reality no serious manager would even pick up the phone, let alone be interested. It is however a gravy train rider's paradise rght now.... those in charge are deluded and utterly clueless - and you're probably guuaranteed a pay off this season. Hence the long list of utter deadbeats

“Long way from anywhere”. True. 70 miles from London? The club might as well as be on the fooking moon.

Outed as a Norwich fan so many times yet continues to waste his time with nonsense like this. Very odd behaviour, and clearly has very little understanding about the game or industry.

In footballing terms it is on the moon compared to around seventy other clubs in the league. If you think an appalling train service or a clogged up road to London is a selling point - then Colchester is a better option.

At a guess, either a bottom half Premier League team or a top half Championship team. I'd say he's of a fairly similar stature to Scott Parker, who followed a mixed spell at Fulham with a job at Bournemouth. Don't think he would have to wait too long for something similar.

There's no rational reason why it's a graveyard and the whacking great pay day is going to dispel a lot of that wariness.

certainly people will still want it, but managers who have options will think twice. the likes of lampard (and even terry) would be mad to go near it at the moment
