Boy, from what I understand, is a more north Suffolk and Norfolk term.

Not sure I've heard many of the other variants from the mad, bad borderlands.

Indeed, the ever-reliable Suffolk Dictionary only lists 'bor' as an entry...

And over time it became normal to address mates in that way.

I’m prone to using both, while despite having the ‘south Suffolk’ accent, I.e Ipswich, not broad Suffolk, blends into North Essex, I do like an ‘alright b’ and an ‘Allo booiii’ when greeting mates!

My dad 90 years in Ipswich is a 'boi'. His mate similar age from Sudbury/Hadleigh is definitely a 'buh'
