Potentially some good news from the northern front. Lots of chatter of significant fighting near Kreminna. If Ukraine can make an advance here, they can completely cut the highway to Svatove making access to there difficult.
Similarly it threatens the Northern flanks of Severodonetsk and Lyschans'k.
Everything is very vague, but the level of chatter suggests something significant is happening.

There is actually nothing to negotiate. If it moves it’s forces back to pre 2024 sovereign borders then maybe there can be a conversation, not least about levels of compensation and reparations for war crimes. But that of course isn’t going to happen and everyone knows it.
Putin looking to buy time. He is playing on the West’s falling interest and falling munitions stocks along with Ukraine’s exhaustion. He wants to buy time with ‘what we have, we hold’, ‘reasonable man’ approach. A Czechoslovakia 1938 style dismemberment with pieces of paper and peace in our time smiles.
It’s a good tactic which should be resisted at all costs. Zelenski is right.
Edit: Putin is right. The west is trying to tear Russia apart if you agree with him that USSR borders plus maybe Finland are Russia. Maybe include its 1946 spheres of influence, plus maybe Western Europe. He’s a nut job.
Sixth commandment is actually "Thou shall not murder" (rather than kill ... there are limited instances such as self-defence or war where it would not be murder; however, the grounds for this "special military operation" are so weak that war is questionable from the Russian perspective).
On another note, it is dangerous to be on the Russian side and not just because of the Ukrainian forces.

Ringing in the New Year in Ukraine.
That disgusting creature Putin’s new year message was yet more misinformation and propaganda. Still, if you keep telling the same lies, they become the truth or at the very least useful idiots will believe it.
Nice to see them ringing in the new year with missiles. They seem to have an inexhaustible supply whether from their own toy cupboard or their mates’.

A personal message I have received indirectly: "you will know that Russian drone attacks have been fierce in the last few days. Kyiv has been receiving wave after wave of these. ... rockets could be heard being shot down. Terrible and very loudly, everyone began to pray! Half of the people came and still got a thermos: thank God everyone is alive and unharmed!" This relates to distribution of thermos flasks delivered to enable people to store hot liquid from when the electricity is on.

So Russia has admitted 89 conscripts have died in the rocket attack, Ukraine claims 400 killed. Split the difference so call it 200 plus many more injured. All those young men gone - for what? An old madman’s dreams. If there’s such a thing as hell, he’ll be in the cauldron with the worst of them hopefully soon.
I notice Putin and co have blamed it on mobile phone use. Nothing to do with billeting them next to a load of munitions in range of Ukraine with the certainty that Ukrainian military would know they were there phones or no phones through such toys as satellites.

Of course Putin broke his own ceasefire. There never was one. It was a good piece of PR presenting himself as a reasonable man; a good ma; areligious man fighting the dark forces of fascism.
It’s winter. This is a time for resupply and limited action while they desperately bring in and train their conscripts. Ceasefire? Just words.
I happen to know a Russian guy who supports Putin. While he would prefer there not to have been a war he sees it as a necessary response by Putin to the West stockpiling weapons in Eastern Europe. In his version of events Putin will take back almost all the former Russian possessions in the next few years. He also says that Russians support Putin because "he had never broken a promise to his people." Thought you might all find it interesting to see what one ordinary Russian guy makes of it all. To be clear these are not my own views.

He’s not alone in his views. Putin enjoys massive support at home and abroad. Plenty of non Russians appear to view him as the strong man, admire his ‘honesty’ and believe he is right to fight the Nazis and defend against aggressive Nato.
I guess the question comes down to whether he believes that sovereign countries have the right to exist; the right of self determination or whether they are satellites of mother Russia. Russia was under no threat from anyone. Quite the opposite in fact. The idea that they are threatened by the west has been a nonsense since 1945 and still is - unless it’s a construct to fulfil a stupid old man’s dreams.
However, like all lies, if you keep on saying something, it becomes the truth and everyone believes it.
