Momentum 10:57 - Aug 9 with 3238 views | GavTWTD | It's a funny thing in football. I don't consider that we had it going into the new season as we had a 3 month break. I accept that the win on sunday however gave us quite a bit back but does tonight count towards it or not? Any physicists about? (ps. its a football thread, not politics)

Momentum on 11:05 - Aug 9 with 2887 views | Guthrum | Momentum is a product of mass and velocity. So the questions are: 1. How fast are we moving and in what direction? 2. Is ITFC a massive club?

Momentum on 11:06 - Aug 9 with 2876 views | tonybied | Not sure it'll do any harm to gain a positive result! I'm sure the feel-good feelings will spread throughout the whole squad, and will be good for some of the backup players to know that when called on they can 'do the job'.

We have Massimo Luongo And Jackson has a good turn of speed.... So yeah, I would say we have excellent Mass and velocity
Momentum on 11:18 - Aug 9 with 2801 views | BiGDonnie | Definitely. Even from the aspect of our presumed second team smashing it tonight will then keep the first team on their toes.

In one game we've gone from second in League 1 to fifth in the Championship, a jump of 21 places, so I believe we have a very strong upward velocity. Bearing in mind that an object in motion shall remain in motion unless a force opposing that motion is applied, I predict that a win on Saturday should see us in about 4th in the Prem.

Only a couple more wins and we'll be through to the World Cup Semis then!

I dont see why we cant be in Europe next season. Doesnt winning a domestic cup (FA Cup/League Cup) get you a place in European competition now?

Momentum on 11:42 - Aug 9 with 2627 views | BigCommon | A win and a good performance tonight, will give us as fans, and our first choice matchday squad, a lot of confidence, in knowing that we've got back up players that can come in and do a job. It will also show, that those players used, are taking everything on board, from the management and coaches. And showing a good attitude. The League Cup itself, is not important to me, personally. But it's a chance to really see how deep our squad is. I think any win counts as momentum. Even the pre season games, against decent opposition in Innsbruck. It gives belief to players, that what we are doing under KM, is working.. And galvanises the squad, as a group, if a supposed second string can step in and perform at a similar level...
Momentum on 11:53 - Aug 9 with 2568 views | RobTheMonk | Simple Maths. Luongo plays = No lose. No Bajner = No Party.
Momentum on 11:56 - Aug 9 with 2546 views | Horsham | Given other than Hutchinson’s cameo, the players were all here last season, Sunday was massive as confirmation of the momentum from last season continuing. If Sunderland’s early dominance had turned into a chastening defeat it would have felt deflating. I think Sunday was pretty perfect in that we got maintain the feel good factor from last season and also got a bit of a wake up call in terms of what we need to improve. Oh and the 3 points is pretty handy too.

Lungo was immense against Sunderland. I can't believe that he's in the bottom half of our outfield players in terms of ratings on here (5 players ahead of him). For me, he was our MOTM, although I appreciate there were a number of very decent performances across the side, and Broadhead's contribution justifiably got him into team of the week. However, although I love Morsy, I think Luongo was the standout CM at the weekend.
Momentum on 12:06 - Aug 9 with 2479 views | Darth_Koont | Definitely think it has lasted over the summer — it’s on and off the pitch. Plus our ambitions and expectations haven’t exactly gone backwards these past months. Sunderland was a test (and we arguably got a little lucky) but it was still a very good away performance against a Championship promotion rival. So even if we want to see momentum purely in playing terms, it looked like we started where we left off last season. And no coincidence that it was essentially the core team from last year minus Walton that got the result.

Momentum on 13:48 - Aug 9 with 2108 views | J2BLUE | Definitely counts but Sunderland has given us options. 11 changes and we would still be strong. 2-3 will have to play out of position (or we will need academy players) but we can still be strong. [Post edited 9 Aug 2023 18:26]

Momentum on 16:30 - Aug 9 with 1837 views | GotOurIpswichBack | Sorry for the negative username - haven’t posted in a while and a throwback to the dark, dark days!! I think momentum is essential in football, lost count of the number of times we have played a weakened team in a cup game and lost it entirely. I get the strategy of giving squad members a game, but think we should think twice about an all out second eleven tonight. Who knows - if we are a top 10 championship team (which we are) we could even win the bloody thing!! COYB

Hi Gav - you mentioned that to me once before, but I am an old fart and can’t work out to DM (assume direct message?) - so plucking up the courage for all to see so I can get instruction? Yours, Embarrassed!
Momentum on 17:06 - Aug 9 with 1693 views | Oldsmoker | It would be nice to continue the momentum - even if it's sort of perceived rather than actual. For me the money shot is Joey Barton. Post match Joey (we was robbed) v. Joey (we stuffed 'em) is the overriding factor here.

Yeah I saw some QPR fans wishing he was back there after watching the match as he's apparently by far a better looking CM than they've had for years
