The German Army are bringing us ventilators. Is the irony of this lost on the little-England, bigoted, “two world wars and one World Cup, let’s get Brexit done, Brussels dictatorship” crowd?
Ok - rhetorical question. Thank you Germany and EU for your continued friendship despite the ill-will expressed by people allegedly acting in my name.
I don't know if that's the cse or not, but there are sadly NHS staff who have died who's family/colleagues believe wouldn't have had they had the correct PPE.
There needs to be a proper review when this is all over into the many areas that are causing a few eyebrows to be raised, to put it mildly.
Yes, being asthmatic and throwing myself into risk would be a good idea wouldn’t it?
But you already knew that, don’t let it get in the way of scoring some TWTD points though.
Why do you think I decided to stay in whilst the government decided folk like me potentially dying is a risk worth taking for the banks?
You have missed your calling haven’t you ? When Cummings was asking for advisors to join the government you could have joined and you could have saved us all!

We’re not going to hit the ventilator target according to Hancock, which aims to be a surplus.
Really it means we need to hope the peak doesn’t hammer us too hard, too soon.

You must be INCREDIBLY SLOW to not see...
A) None of this is made up, the mainstream press were reporting it and
B) They were right. Herd immunity was a disaster.
We lost an extra weekend to that, then another week faffing about. Which has cost lives.
If you even need gaslight yourself into thinking it was intentional you have serious issues with your ability to think.
And even bigger issues if your best response is sarky comments like that. Cummings was happy for your friends and relatives to die to protect the encomony.
“Really it means we need to hope the peak doesn’t hammer us too hard, too soon.”
Wasn’t that exactly the stated aim right from the beginning of this? “Flatten the curve”.
To flatten a curve you don’t start with a herd immunity approach, modelled on the wrong virus, expecting peak in the Summer, that would cripple the NHS several times over.

The problem is that the lockdown doesn't take into account the long-term handling of the virus and the herd immunity doesn't take into account the short-term problems re: the swamping of resources.
But let's move away from talking about them as either/or. We need a combination of both lockdown and the "herd immunity" approach to get us to the end of the year and a vaccine.

You also don't start with an instant lockdown. The balancing and timing of the approaches can be debated but we won't know which country has handled it best until the pandemic plays out and we can also address the "Lockdown Fatality Rate".
It's worrying that with the increased number of deaths for this period the majority aren't from Covid-19. So more people are dying of "normal" stuff because of the lockdown.
We're now getting the type of data we need (as well as the infection rate data) that allows us to take a step back and figure out what's actually best for the greater good.

Agreed. Apparently the first batches of tests carried out on NHS staff who thought they may the virus only 1 in 5 had. Far too many staff self isolating putting pressure on those at work. Not the fault of staff but the lack of testing.
Not sure if I believe only 19 frontline NHS staff have died of the virus. That is probably a lower percentage than in the population as a whole.

This is pretty interesting, it's far from conclusive but doctors from numerous countries are starting to say that ventilators might not be the answer and that less invasive oxygen techniques are possibly better.

You also can't simply put people on lockdown when they have never experienced this before, quite frankly it is impossible.
It could be possible if there was a second wave as we are now conditioned to the situation.
You cannot compare western actions to the likes of China, Korea etc.
It's only just sinking through to keep a separation distance.

A lot of other countries acted faster and flattened the curve better than we did.
We had data from other countries, we weren’t the test case.

We know!we don’t need keyboard ‘Experts’ stating the obvious. Still in hindsight we will all be experts.

Hindsight? This stuff was out there to read a month ago at least. Although I must laugh at you claiming to say I’m pretending to be an expert when all I’ve done is take in information.
Our death rate is not acceptable considering the warnings we had from Italy and Spain. Nor is the USA.
so to recap the o.p. wasn't thanking the e.u. for ventilators but to the the german army but some thought he was thanking the e.u. for the ventilators. so they rushed in jizz flowing to tell the poster he was wrong in what he posted
forensic experts say footers and spruces fingerprints were not found at the scene after the weekends rows

" let’s get Brexit done, Brussels dictatorship” crowd"?
"Thank you Germany and EU"
I'll be honest with you. I'm straight. But even if I was gay I'd set my sights higher than a sad old boy like you. Thanks for the constant attention though.

There was a Cambridge professor on the TV last week and he was analysing the deaths from CV and comparing them with a normal year. He said the deaths are taking a 12 month period and putting it into 3 months. So if your young your chances of dying in the next 12 months are low whether that be from illness or accident. But if you're older you're chances of dying in the next 12 months are a lot higher. Basically from his analysing of the deaths from CV todate his conclusions was the vast majority who have died would have died during the next 12 months irrelevant of CV. He wasnt against lockdown but he said it should be balance.

But the factor is overwhelming hospitals is going to cause those in the less-at-risk category more likely to be at risk.
Unless our policy is “herd immunity and if some pensioners die too bad”, which would involve not admitting those considered high risk to hospital to save their lives. That could possibly be one of the most evil things a British government has done in my lifetime (and there’s a lot of competition there between Iraq, Grenfell and universal credit). It would also be not too far away from the “eugenics” concept I mentioned in jest on here once that Glassy B Took literal.
Spoke to my (not biological but certainly in name as my actual one died when my Dad was pre-teens) Grandad yesterday. He’s 95 and still managing to get out to do 3 laps of walking the car park near his flat 3 times a day. He’s still active, has a social life and I wouldn’t consider him on death’s door by any stretch, but I would be very worried if he contracted The ‘Rona.
Be in a better position to come up with a strategy of how we approach this whilst we wait for a vaccine.
But the strategy will be a bit of letting the virus spread and a bit of lockdown (targeted and local) to protect risk groups and healthcare resources.
The long-term approach is only just emerging but it won't be lockdown in the same way as it won't be herd immunity. Neither on their own get us to the end of the year in the shape we need to be in in.

New Zealand? 1 Death. They test, test, test and are very proactive in finding every case and tracing the virus. They went into shutdown early, everyone flying in has to self isolate for 15 day's....we're still letting people fly in to the UK from covid hot zones and do what they like. The incompetence from our government has been and is astounding.

You cannot compare New Zealand to UK, it is spread out and the whole country has half the population of London

So every lorry driver bringing in supplies from the EU would have to self isolate for 15 days?
