I mentioned it earlier, but I doubt we’ve matched the release clause. When clubs insert release clauses it’s on the basis that if/when they’re triggered, the whole fee is paid in one - not instalments. I can’t see us doing that. I suspect we might try do a deal around the same price - £18m - but with better terms spread across a period of time.
As reference, Man United just signed Joshua Zirkzee for €42m, even though his release clause was €40m. However they spent more so they could spread the cost over 3 years (€14m per year) instead of €40m in one lump sum. | |

We have probably matched it but might then have the negotiation using the fact we will buy him for the release fee unless they agree slightly higher over longer period like Zirkzee you mentioned. | |
