Premier league cancels TV deal with Russia. 10:00 - Jun 10 with 832 viewsCrawfordsboot

Does this make sense? Millions would have been paid by Russia to the UK for the rights and matches would be seen on Russian TV. Would it not be good that the Russian public get to see players from a range of different countries working together as team mates? They would also see the taking of the knee, and anti war posters in crowds.

Surely exposing them to the soft power of freedoms in the west would be so much better than cutting them off thereby feeding the Putin propaganda machine.

You make a good point. I guess they're hoping if everyday Russian's are losing their privileges and the things they enjoy are being taken away, it might increase anti Putin sentiment in the country. I hear you though, they'll probably have UK football replaced with Russian and there's a risk the whole country just becomes more insular and with less exposure to the wider world.

Should have kept it going but added some subliminal hypnosis against Putin.

Out of interest is the EPL popular there, or is this largely a symbolic move?

As the point of canceling the contact is to make ordinary Russians question just what the fack is going on, I approve your plan 100%.

Yep, much as in the UK with Btrexit. Until it hits them personally, they will remain in denial.

Unless Russia blocks the internet, this will cause the 'average Ivan' to look elsewhere for what is happening - other than Russian state propaganda

The OPs suggestion is akin to providing drugs to an addict, hoping they might change.

You make a good argument, but I’d still cancel it. The more they are isolated the better in my view.

Your comment 1 - Fair enough, you might be right.

Your comment 2 - I think they already block much of the internet content.

Your point 3 - Rubish - selling Russia arms might be akin to what you suggest - my original post is not
