It's certainly been indifferent. Colchester definitely looked the more composed in possession, which is slightly worrying. Hopefully we're just keeping our powder dry for Morecambe.

Holy has gifted them all of their goals. Perhaps he wanted to be nice to the old Ipswich players.

Agreed. They look much more prepared than we do. Hopefully we’ll forget this game come the Morecambe game.

First time I’ve seen the new players and no one has really stood out.

Because its a friendly that meant nothing to us but did to them, nothing more.

You could tell, Bonne, Pigott etc not even out of first gear for a start.

So we’ve picked up a draw away from home, that’s another point for our promotion charge!!! Get a grip, it’s a pre season friendly….you’ll be one of those that gets their knickers in a twist if we don’t win every game this season. Simply embarrassing.

The final result mattered not, but it was disappointing to see very few patterns of play emerge during the full 90. Col U certainly looked better drilled than us. Hopefully we can put it down to the sheer turnover of players and this will be a distant memory in a month or so.

Whilst I'm not overly concerned about results in preseason friendlies. Your last two sentences are spectacularly daft.

Remember when we said our players weren’t out of first gear under Lambert - that went well.

Could it be that we’ve got so many new players it might just take a little bit of time to get things to click? From memory, we’ve spanked Colchester in pre season friendlies over the last few seasons that told us a lot about our league campaign.

In a way, we have a really generous August for a team who are squad building

07 Aug (H) Morecambe
10 Aug (H) Newport County (League Cup)
14 Aug (A) Burton Albion
17 Aug (A) Cheltenham Town

This should be more than enough time to get the players bedded in whilst playing against some of the weaker teams, on paper, that we will face this season.

They physically weren't able to get out of 1st gear. Big difference.

I see your point, but a win would have been a big plus for a squad who are learning to become a team.

However, the last minute goal from Burns will probably have a similar effect.

A win doesnt do anything other than make the fans happy. Friendlies are lose lose tbh. Win and it's just a friendly. Lose or draw and everyone picks the bones out of the game.

You are very much incorrect on this. Wins, no matter what the occasions, have a positive team-building effect. When the players are out there, they are wanting to win.

I am not saying we should win every friendly, but most of our players have not won a game as a team yet. Tonight would have been a mental booster.

Conversely, the lack of a win won't be the end of the world - except for maybe Holy, who I reckon will be on the receiving end of a lashing from Cook this week.

Sorry, friendly results count for nothing regarding your league form. There’s plenty of teams that have had a poor pre season and then started the season well and vice versa.

I wouldn't worry too much .... last pre-season we hammered Col U 4-0 and then had one of our lowest league finishes since World War Two.

Friendlies are as much a part of mental conditioning as they are physical. My point was that a win would have been a positive team builder rather than 'we are fooked'.

I am not complaining either, just saying that it will be a little more pressure when we start the season if this team hasn't experienced a win as a team. (Dartford hardly counts as many of the signings were made after this game)

At lower level maybe

Top level they will take it as it is and appreciate it for what it is.

3 goals conceded against a load of players who wont be in the first team 11.

Players arent daft.

They will be working individually with the fitness coaches and looking at their own contributions etc. PC will be asking specific things of players not known to others. Etc.

The fact we included 5 youngsters tonight will also taken into consideration.
