BANTER ERA NOV 2007 - APRIL 2023 09:55 - Feb 13 with 90224 viewschicoazul

What's your personal highlight of the Banter Era?
For me, the way Delaney told Jewell he was off to live in New York and needed to be let go, and then turned up at Palace a month or so later and enjoyed a promotion and a long career in the top flight.
I also like very much the fact Jewell signed Ingimarsson (sp) simply because they were at the same resort on holiday at the same time and Ingi did of course turn out to be an absolute knacker of a player.
Also the gangsters arriving at Playford Rd looking for Chopra.
What are yours?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

No, he effectively had 18 months, six months plus an option. Mick didn't want him to go and Forest didn't offer enough to tempt us, even though Efe Ambrose had been sounded out as a potential replacement on loan in case things did progress.

If chicoazul divides his book into two halves then I would suggest that “...a potential replacement on loan...” would be the ideal heading for the post 2014-15 seasons.

Chris Wood signing for us on loan. Not being match fit and being generally poor before becoming a 20 goal a season striker the season after for Leeds.

Did any of the latter part of that happen? I don't recall it. There appear to be a lot of half-truths, exaggerations or Chinese whispers added to an awful lot of stories in this thread.

100%. If anybody can be bothered to scroll back to the date, it was Jan 31st 2017 and is probably still there.

To be fair he was recalled by Leicester just as he was starting to get some match sharpness.

He was the ideal replacement for Murphy, we had him in the bloody building.

I stand corrected and apologies for doubting you. I was probably writing up the press conference where Mick had said something along the lines of the deal never being on the cards, Town weren't prepared to sell him etc. Think whoever wrote the tweet got the wrong end of the stick.

Signing Giles Coke, Tom Adeyemi and Cameron Stewart.

MM badmouthing Jack Marriott because he'd bought a flash car.

Paying £1m for Luciano Civelli.

Being 3-0 down before HT at home to Doncaster, and seeing Jewell take off Colin Healy after just 30 minutes.

Not having an established right-back for about 5 years, and not playing Jonathan Parr regularly.

Jewell getting sacked and then going to Palace to see us lose 5-0, then Leicester to see us lose 6-0

The FA Cup!

Going 16 games without a win under Keane...

There are so many gems - this is a great thread!

Jewell missing his post-match presser to watch a DVD.

The half time dance troupe being booed and never coming back.

Kevin Bru losing his dog.

Jonathan Douglas and Jordan Spence being team regulars somehow.

Drawing 4-4 with Derby.

Ogle had to go help him look for it.

Oh the kids shirts that still had the adult size ME logo on them so they looked redick was another classic.

Oh my fav part of the Chopra gangster story was when they arrived and asked if he was Michael Chopra he said he wasn’t and pointed to another player. Can’t remember who but he wasn’t popular. The while back on one of the player’s IG accounts Chopra left a comment and Chambers replied with just snake emojis. Haha.

Also remember him when we were bottom under Jewell asking if any fans would go queue up at midnight to get him the new COD game in exchange for a signed shirt. He got ripped for that.

People excitedly telling us how 47 year old Lee Bowyer was going to score 'a dozen goals' despite having scarcely managed 5 for the preceding three seasons and then him turning up, scoring one, getting injured and then retiring. Sorry, he didn't retire, there was a queue of clubs so long asking for his services that he still hasn't made his mind up which one to sign for.

Well he played 29 games for us, but who can ever forget him getting the winner against West Ham, with Robert Green in goal.

A young Cressy was the player in question, poor lad.

That is classic about the COD game, no idea that happened. I got questionned when I said he was the worst signing of the decade. I think the evidence is clear as to why on this thread.

He cheated on his wife on his wedding day. Guy is a complete pr1ck. His goading of people on Twitter has always backfired. The one where he posted after we beat Blackpool saying “we’re still above Ipswich” and then 3 weeks later we went above them was a classic. Wonder what he’s up to now.

Pre-Banter Era but surely deserves an honourable mention

The club selling those Greene King sponsored shirts with Bury St Edmunds spelt Bury St Edmonds and colouring in the top of the O to make it look like a U.

I wonder if those mispelt shirts are worth anything now.
