Victorian pitch markings 10:25 - Nov 4 with 4316 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

All these years of loving football, I'm surprised I've never come across these before. The six yard box was shaped like a bum, and you could take a penalty from anywhere along the line. You learn something new every day!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Great post. Not going back quite that far, but I remember as a kid playing in a game where one of our lads was rushed to hospital after he’d got some of the touchline, which were lime back then, in his eye. Our gaffer pouring almost a bucket of water in it before the ambulance arrived probably saved his eye.

That's great, never realised they were ever like that.

Also, the 18 yards penalty area (the dotted line) ran the length of the pitch - not the "box" that we know today.

On a separate note, the photo is of the last non-league team (Spurs) to win the FA Cup.

I wonder if anyone took a penalty from anywhere other than central and what their reasoning for doing so would be.

Queen Victoria died on 22nd January 1901, that's the 1901 cup final, which was played on 20th April.

Those are Edwardian pitch markings.
