So, let me get this straight. I can't see a doctor at the mo 'cos they're under Covid restrictions / overworked / under pressure or whatever excuse they're using this week. But if I get caught with a large amount of waccy-baccy I get to see a doctor. Rather strange appointments system but I'll take it over what I have now. Shame I live in a country that doesn't do this but instead wants to go back to the 'good 'ol days'.

I think this part of the strategy he wrote confirms your notion: 'So this is, like a strategy, man. It's kinda over-arching. And it's totally groovy. We all need to be under the arch, man. All of us. And think about it. 'Arch' can mean 'An amazing comforting home'. Once you realise that, man, everything is possible. And the arch is like a rainbow with totally amazing colours. Like, all the colours in the universe. And some more as well. It's just mind-blowing....'

No one seems to be able to get a face-to-face appointment and it has to be asked why. Except nobody seems to know. What workload are GPs facing that they weren't pre-Covid? Actually, maybe they are, but it would be good to know.

Or maybe a vast majority of their face-to-face appointments before Covid were a complete waste of their time.

A friend of my sister has recently died from cancer because it wasn't diagnosed over the phone. My sister herself has been trying to get an appointment for ages and it has taken a physio to write to her doctor's to request urgent action on something she found last week. So no, not having that. People's lives and well-being are at risk. I've not been able to get an appointment myself for a long time, being forced instead to use their online service which is currently out-sourced to a 'healthcare' service outside of the practice. We live 150 miles apart so it's not like it's a localised thing.

That's terrible. I can only speak from the experience with our own surgery, and they operate what seems to be a very effective triage system over the phone. Clearly the approach should be 'if if doubt, see the patient'. I've even been able to have a face-to-face review for my chronic condition with the practice nurse. Sadly, I have a feeling that the phone-based system is with us for a long time, if not forever, as a way round staffing challenges. Also, at our surgery, and I suspect at many others, there are ongoing Covid vaccination clinics.

I'm not going to say what my symptons are 'cos that's doctor/patient confidentiality. However, I have Google and all my searches say See a doctor NOW. Somehow, I need to get into the system whereby I get tests to see whats wrong. That's all - I don't see it is too much to ask for.

I cannot seem to get past this E-Consult system. I'm irritated personally because a few weeks ago I had an ear/nose/throat thing and, to be fair, the healthcare provider prescribed the needed antibiotics which worked. However, despite me specifically requesting the prescription be sent out which is a service provided on site, he sent them to the local pharmacy here. That would be fine except he also insisted I requested a PCR test and self-isolated in the meantime. How the feck was I supposed to collect the prescription? He just didn't listen to any of it. On the more serious note, a woman should not have to wait to see her own doctor if she has concerns about certain parts of her body. The connection wasn't made over the phone which probably would have been in a proper examination. They sent out some tablets instead. Now of course I am concerned about my own sister, being a particular age and all that. Been fobbed off and told it sounded like she had a problem that required physio ffs. The physio took a look and said this isn't a job for me. Weeks potentially wasted waiting for an appointment that was not needed. You can see my reasoning no doubt.

Your GP surgery doesn't have an urgent "must be seen this day" system then? If it' as serious as it sounds, you could go to A&E I guess. What we have now is the running down of the NHS in a variety of ways, to make it easier for individual tories to continue lining their own pockets by privatising it in ongoing stealthy bites 🤬

The removal of ear treatment is another recent step of privatisation. No longer considered a 'core' part of the NHS service. So in the 70s/80s/90s it became eyes and then teeth, feet, backs... Now it's ears. One part at a time they're moving around the body removing various services.
