Not that town needed to put themselves in the shop window 23:02 - Dec 30 with 2362 views | FrimleyBlue | But IF any players behind the scenes have been thinking about a move to town.. it's that performance tonight that shows them why.

Certainly passed his audition.

Possibly But on the brightside of that. They'd probably pay whatever ashton asked for

Maresca knows Delap better than most already, I dont think tonight will have surprised him. The board wont be selling in Jan.

Yeah certainly added a few £ to his price tag. Maresca knows him from City days so don't suppose he needed much of an audition, but evidencing it at Premier League level first hand can't have done him any harm.

Think Man City would have something to say about that. Could be the ideal bidding war for us…. I hear £300 million to the left, do i hear £350 million?

I think there's always value in evidencing raw talent at senior level, but no doubt he's kept close tabs on him all season. That performance tonight was a different level though.

He was his coach in the City academy, so will no doubt have had his eye on him for a long time.

Yeah I'm sure he has, he was saying in the week that he rated him as a youngster when coaching him at City. He's come of age over the last 4 months, there's inevitably going to be a lot of interest but it won't be a deal we'll see in January. He'll be hard to keep hold of in the summer I think. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I don't even know where that performance came from tonight from the lads. I know we've been close and competing. But that was a completely different level tonight. Delap and hutch were ridiculous. Its crazy but if the same lineup happens next game. There could be £40, mill worth of summer transfers sat on the bench.

Its came from numerous good performances we have had this season. Some fans just dont have the critical thinking to compute that just because you drop points you can still play really well. Fulham, Villa, United, Leicester. 4 home games right there where our level of performance has been really good and worthy of a win. Individual mistakes, individual quality of opposition, referees should not take away from those level of performances. That is where that performance came from. Long overdue we got those points. I was thinking more about the tenacity and constant drive after a tough fixture only days ago. Plus 4 changes. That was definitely not expected tonight

I wonder what they would pay, this is a club who paid about £100 million for Caicedo?

The changes brought in quality. Walton assured, gave the defence confidence. Wolf, constantly clearing up and that allowed O'Shea & Greaves to move out from the backline to help midfield stop attacks. Broadhead, helping with defence, winning tackles, and the passes nobody expects ie that quick reverse pass to Delap where somehow the GK saved it.

There has been plenty of tenacity and drive in our home fixtures this season. I always expect it from a McKenna team. We won't always get the perfect performance, but its never through the want of trying. We are due that

Results tend to dictate the narrative far far more than they should when it comes to appraising a performance, and for forwards goals dictate the narrative among many. Delap was getting criticised on here last night for going off the boil, 'not played well since Spurs' which just isn't true. He missed Newcastle through suspension and he was superb at Wolves the game before, absolutely superb. He played very well against United as well for that matter, and were it not for a couple of good (1 ridiculous) saves from Onana he could've scored the winner and people would've reacted exactly as they are tonight. As you say we've generally played well as a team. Only 2 games in the last 11 have been decided by more than a 1 goal margin and one of those was our win tonight. In that 11 I would say only Palace and Newcastle were particularly flat performances. Bournemouth was good for an hour until we were undone late on and it was suddenly doomsday. We're playing top sides, we don't have a right to be beating Chelsea and Spurs, drawing with United and Villa etc. It might not be enough at times but we're doing well on the whole.

Wouldn't surprise me at all, I can't see it being a reality in January though unless he really forced it which feels unlikely. He could be hard to keep beyond the summer.

Not true. We could have lost that 3 2 and I'd still be saying delap was brilliant. I don't feel we have seen the best of delap recently. Tonight we did ( his best performance by far too)

Great post. Couldn't agree more. Got a really committed group of players and Staff (even if some suggest the manager isn't). It is natural that their performances will be up and down at times, but lots of them are learning the level in front of our eyes. I love seeing them win, because they just all really deserve it. Chuffed for them.
