Remember when he was not terribly effective for Ipswich? Now playing in a Europa League semi-final.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

He was decent for us, just lacked experience and his Mum was the problem. Imagine if Fraser had been fit that season ... we'd have gone up with that midfield.

I think with RLC there was always a good player there but being a Chelsea youngster had to wait for first team football and wasn't even loaned out until he was nearly 22. That loan spell at Palace was the first measure anyone could really have had, so for all anyone knew he could've been the real deal at 19 (especially with his size)

That’s the point though - players tend to take a lot longer to develop and show their full potential as they don’t get the same opportunities that they did in the 80’s

It’s not an exact science and clearly there are still players that buck that trend, but there’s definitely less teenagers playing top level football these days and the general age of breaking through is rising

That's partly due to the standard of our leagues now and party due to the understanding in sports science and what loads different players can take. Even under Hurst there were quotes around Dozzell's physiology and being susceptible to injury without certain changes to his training/bulking up etc. The early example of Mick Mills disagreeing with respect is partly and old school ignorance of such sports science.

Poll: Genuine answers please on what you would choose next season!
