I’ve said it before on here (and got slaughtered for it because the RIP thread was about someone in horse racing) but I find it massively distasteful that people would choose this type of thread to slag the person off.
It’s poor form.
2 things - people will talk about things when it's in the news, his death opens up discussions about him and his practice. Secondly, you earn the respect you have at death in your life. Whilst it's very sad for family members and people who were close to them, you can't expect someone dying to cause people to completely change or forget their held views on that person.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.
I think that those involved do believe that there is something in all this - you can contact the deat etc. And so when a 'bit of help' is offered they accept/don't question as it helps to prove that their beliefs are valid.
Sadly like the performer who will have a little 'livener' (drink/drugs) to enhance their performance that 'livener becomes becomes a dependancy. The researcher who is able to point the physicic towards revelations becomes more necessary the further that psychic carrer goes.
And if that psychic had the ability to take a more rational view of what they are doing, they would most likely have had the rational thought to dismiss this mumbo jumbo from the start.
And I'm sure the money and fame (how ever limited either maybe) are hardly likely to cause one of these types to say "actually this is a load of sh ite and so I am finished with it">

Indeed, it was the desire not to tarnish the dead that lead to the BBC binning their Saville documentary.

Indeed, it was the desire not to tarnish the dead that lead to the BBC binning their Saville documentary.
The BBC would have broadcast a glowing tribute to Saville if it hadn't have been for employees kicking up a stink and showing dissent.
The BBC hierarchy knew what Saville was like but it was only when it became accepted that his name was tarnished with the general public that the backtracking began.
I assume his family will be contacting their local medium to make sure he is ok in the afterlife? Perhaps knowing how difficult it is to contact the dead he will be slightly more helpful than the incredibly vague information the dead usually provide. If I was dead and my family were desperately trying to contact me i'd perhaps try and be a bit more helpful than giving a random letter in the person's name. "J2 says he wants you to delete his internet history before giving his old laptop to your brother".
But no, he was clearly a wonderful man and it's all legit.
RIP. Unless anyone comes through for a chat obviously.
Utter scam artist, sounds like he was being investigated right up to his death. He was due to an appearance at a restaurant I walked past a few months ago so I'm guessing he wasn't as well off as you'd assume either.
Regardless, the world is better off without people like him exploiting and leeching their way through it.

Also a good shout for some Clinton Baptiste...
The Clinton Baptiste podcast where a lad wants to speak to the German soldier who was shot by his Grandad in the war and then starts trying to converse with his ghost in German was the highlight of 2019, podcast wise.
"Yes, they all tend to speak English on the other side"
Brilliant.
Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.
I agree that some people may have got comfort from it.
I have huge problems though, with the morality of providing comfort of that type, by deceiving them.
Spot on.
"In May 2012, Acorah claimed to have received a psychic message from Madeleine McCann via a 'spirit guide', stating that the child had died some time ago but would soon be reincarnated."
He apologised for publishing this in a national newspaper but once it's out there there are many vulnerable people who might believe him and come to him to speak to their loved ones.
It's something we should have left behind a long time ago.

Wasnt aware of that.
Utterly despicable- and shifts my position to a considerably harder one.
The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

Someone line Derren Brown, for example, has so successfully debunked all this nonsense by showing how they do it - and doing it far better than those who cloam to be psychics or mediums - that it's incredible people still buy it. That said, people are vulnerable following a loss and the idea of hearing from a deceased loved one again must be very appealing. That's why I despise the likes of Acorah and make no apologies for calling him out on an RIP thread. He exploited people in Really vulnerable situations, taking their money by conning them into thinking he could help them communicate with a dead loved one. Lowest of the low.

Indeed it is Rommy...and illuminating that some people consider their opinions as fact.
Edit.....obviously this rule only applies to humans so her Magginess is exempt!!

It's not an opinion that he's conning vulnerable people into thinking he's helping them communicate with the dead, it's a fact. The techniques he uses are well documented.

Genuine question, did he actually believe in what he was doing? Did he think he had an ability to communicate with dead people and believe himself to be doing so? Or was he aware it was acting / a form of entertainment at the expense of vulnerable people? It makes a bit of a difference IMO when it comes to a character assassination, and would be more sympathetic if it's the former. If so, you might argue the morality of that isn't dissimilar to a number of professions (clergyman for example).
He genuinely believed in it. Don't get me wrong, there were the odd moments he'd be talking about something, and you could see he had been fed the information or made it up.
Other times he'd come up with something that took months to research afterward that turned out to be correct.
I must say that I knew him from his paranormal investigations, not from 1-2-1 readings which are polar opposites really.

You can't possibly know that for certain.
But even if you were right (and it is true that people effectively talk themselves into believiing things), you clearly know that he also outright lied and decieved.

You should read up on hot and cold readings. There are techniques to get information out of people and then say something which they can convince themselves is correct.
Never underestimate the effect of confirmation bias - many people want what was said to be correct and will try hard to make it correct even if it's subconsciously.

I can, because I researched it.
Irrespective of is any medium preys on people through 1-2-1 readings, you don't know anything for certain either, but you certainly seem pretty angry if people don't share your view.
