Feel like we've spent a lot of the first four days in the ascendancy but without fully capitalising. Today, too many got out after getting a start when if we'd had one of our top 6 hang around and get 80 plus we'd have set them over 300 and been in the driving seat. The missed chances have also been very frustrating. Beeb saying Casey has taken 9 of 10 chances to Bairstow's 1 of 5, the Aussies taking 12 of 15 overall versus 5 of 10 for us. That might end up being the difference. That said, a couple of quick wickets and the complexion of the game changes totally.

Well there's the first one. Australia were looking very comfortable at that point too.

I posted higher up the thread but I think the Root wicket will be the one we'll really look back on if we lose this. He was playing so well and the run rate was rapid (obviously the latter was because of some risk) and another hour of that would probably have seen another declaration.

Tufnell's in a bitchy mood.

Oz very much in control, we desperately need another breakthrough or two tonight!

Those two out twice for a total of 37 runs is pinch-yourself territory.

Still think it's not far off 50/50. Khawaja looks on great nick and they've got another three or four batsmen capable of knocking runs off at a decent lick. Get Khawaja early tomorrow and it's England's to lose though.

Khawaja, Head, Green and Carey - they're the key players. Get three out of four and we'll be in a very good place.

Yes, I agree it's pretty even at this point. It may not have been the highest quality Test match between these two but the competitiveness and the way the advantage has swung between both sides makes it a very good one.

I'm going to bore everyone with this point but squeezing it into six weeks to make space for the Hundred is an appalling service to the game from the ECB.
