Favourite kitchen utensils? 08:58 - Jul 17 with 1438 views | vapour_trail | It is a Friday innit. And I want some tips for new stuff. Mine: My garlic crusher has a thing that removes the bits of garlic that usually get stuck in there so it’s not a nightmare to clean. My wooden tongs for hooking toast out which cheer me every time I use them. And my pestle and mortar, just because it’s satisfying to smash sh1t up.

I know it ain't traditional to use one, but it's super handy for things like confit, or when you've got some lean meat that needs attention. Ahem.

I got it originally to finish off my Creme Brulee but I use it now for lots of things from skinning peppers to searing scallops, browning off chicken and its even handy when lighting the BBQ

Funny you should say that but based on experience I always recommend to people when they first use one test it outside as getting the flame pressure correct does take a bit of tweaking and first time I tried it (indoors) I did nearly set fire to something

The wife bought a ricer a few months back but tbh I’m not sure I like it. I think I’m a bit of a heathen when it comes to mash, and prefer it a bit thicker with the odd lump rather than perfectly smooth! (And don’t even get me started on the blended puree-type mash you get some places...)

Down arrowed because you're clearly a monster. Mash should be lump-free.

Thermometers sound really boring. I'd rather go for the old 'do you think this will kill us?' quandary every time :)

Favourite kitchen utensils? on 12:28 - Jul 17 with 905 views | gainsboroughblue | I'm pretty chuffed with an omelette maker I bought very recently. Ok, it may be a bit on the lazy side but for £20 it's a brilliant piece of kit and doesn't take up much room. Simply heat until light goes out, spray with frylite and add your mixture. Ten minutes later, nice fluffy omelette that doesn't stick and then just wipe clean. I am a bit of a sucker for a gadget to be honest. I have a garlic press that someone else described earlier where the skin stays inside with pushing out the pulp. Did have a potato ricer but tend to beat vigorously with a fork these days if I'm mashing.

It's to prevent sticking. I don't add it for flavour.
