Port Vale to get a thumping tonight? 11:13 - Oct 25 with 4538 views | Wallingford_Boy | Other than the Cambridge game, with 3 late goals to make it look easier than it was, we've been stuttering a little for a while now (can probably go right back to early September for the last convincing win). Tonight the night it clicks again and we cruise to victory?! I'm kidding myself aren't I? On paper, it could easily be a battering for Vale, but with key players out and still not looking convincing at the top end of the pitch (still no idea who our strongest front 3 are?!), I expect a nervy night. Port Vale to get a thumping tonight? on 11:31 - Oct 25 with 3919 views | clive_baker | I would say the 3 late goals against Cambridge were a perfectly fair reflection of a game that saw us have 70% possession and limit them to no shots on target. I don't think tonight will be a battering, Port Vale have hosted Pompey, Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday this season and only conceded 2 goals across the 3 games. They also went away to Derby 2 weeks ago and won. It'll be a tough game, especially given the injuries we've got. Would be a massive 3 points if we can win.

It's a crazy league, every 3 points is massive! Morecambe beat Barnsley at the weekend, Lincoln have taken points from us, Wednesday, Derby and Pompey already.
Port Vale to get a thumping tonight? on 11:42 - Oct 25 with 3872 views | Darth_Koont | We’ll give someone a thumping by scoring an early goal and forcing them to come at us and open up. But, more generally, while we’re given the respect of being automatic promotion favourites and sides are happy to try and contain us, the games will be a lot tighter and scrappier. I think we can see that as a positive though and a clear indication that we’re heading in the right direction. This is what automatic promotion sides look like and what they have to deal with.

Port Vale's home results this season in reverse order: 2-0 Wolves (OK was the silly pointless cup thingy) 2-2 Forest Green 0-1 Sheff Wed 2-1 Shewsbury 2-2 Cheltenham 1-0 Stockport (also that pointless thingy) 0-1 Portsmouth 0-0 Bolton 1-2 Rotherham (the other slightly less pointless cup thingy) 2-1 Fleetwood Anyone who thinks that we can miss our first-choice central midfield and then give them a thumping doesn't pay a lot of attention.

Yes, it will be difficult and I have said elsewhere, their pitch is shocking. That might be our undoing unfortunately….

That's what I said, I expect a nervy evening. Not the battering it appears on paper (they are lower half, League 2 last year v we are second and the big boys of the div).

Why does it appear a battering on paper? That is the bit that makes absolutely no sense! EDIT: OK, I see your parentheses try to justify that view. Have you not seen any results over the past few years against such sides? (And that in all leagues for similar teams.) [Post edited 25 Oct 2022 12:42]

We should be looking to win more of these matches than we don't. I certainly wouldn't simply take a point and we should be going for the win. However, any notion it ought to be an easy win is ridiculous.

So basically - Sheff weds went there and won. Portsmouth went there and won. Bolton went there and drew. Those results suggest that they are not good enough to beat the best teams, of which we are one of the best. So we should get something from the game. But a thumping - probably not.

Port Vale to get a thumping tonight? on 13:09 - Oct 25 with 3315 views | Bobbychase | There's been a lot of focus on us missing Evans and Morsy but remember Chaplin and Edwards are fresh after not playing at the weekend, Ladapo didn't get many minutes v Derby and overall we've had an extra day's rest compared to Vale. Not saying it's going to be easy, but we have one of the most miserly defences in the league and Vale have struggled to keep goals out, and will be facing our attack which always creates chances. Close but we should edge it tonight

Port Vale to get a thumping tonight? on 13:35 - Oct 25 with 3164 views | hatch | They're a predominantly League 2 team that we don't usually play and must be rubbish so 8-0 win for Town. Absolutely nutty some of the complacency on here. I've predicted 1-1 and reckon anything more than that away at Port Vale with new CM partnership would be one of our results of the season. This is the exact attitude that were it to seep across to the players would see us flop to a mid-table finish. Did you not see how hard Morecambe made it for us and they were bottom!

I'd like to think we've improved a little over the last few years! But yeah, point is, not the walkover SOME may think! A point wouldn't be a disaster.

Continued points accumulation is the key, a draw is not a disaster. We're on course for 101 points if we keep up our early season results pattern.

Port Vale to get a thumping tonight? on 15:14 - Oct 25 with 2971 views | ParisBlue | I used to like Port Vale under John Rudge. Always tried to play football, would come to PR with those beliefs, and generally get a thumping. Was never quite so easy at their place. And it won't be tonight. After tonight we'll be more than a 1/3rd of the way through the season so 4 points from this game and Charlton would be most welcome before it quietens down a bit.
