They really have to announce a general election soon don't they? 13:43 - Oct 20 with 2113 viewsGavTWTD

Let the tories choose their leader and an election early next year?

Can't continue like this. At least this new leadership election will only last a week but with a mandate of even fewer people.

You're making the mistake of assuming tories* have any sense of responsibility to the country or those who live in it. So as they don't technically have to, they won't.

Whoever is next will be well aware of this situation. Whilst there is nothing constitutionally wrong in the party choosing the next PM, I suspect they will recognise the issue caused by 3 PM's in one term.
I think they will agree to hold a GE in the Summer whilst they have an opportunity to bed-in to a degree and get through the winter cost of living issues.

What I meant was this:
1) People are likely to have greater strain on energy bills over the next 6 months due to the cold weather than perhaps they would during the summer months.
2) Currently, government support in energy bills ends in April so by setting a GE in the summer gives whoever takes over an opportunity to set out what they intend to do (if anything) when the time limit on support runs out.

I thought this was fairly clear, but I understand further explanation is required for some. Do let me know if you have any further questions.

They know that the public aren't really engaged enough for any anger to be manifested effectively — so they'll plough on and do whatever they like.

Edit that - Brady has said members will be involved & a new leader will be in place by next Friday so expect a quick contest to get it down to 2 & then an on-line vote among Tory members (cringes).

There will be a contest.
When it's down to 2, one of them withdraws leaving the PM.
No need to get the party members/loons involved.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?
