Well, we had to win last night and that was some way in which to do so 07:51 - Sep 29 with 1614 views | Steve_M | Doncaster were poor, really poor in the last half hour but plenty of other teams in this league haven't been all that and we've made football look hard work against them, both this season and last. As just about everyone else has said, Morsy was a class act, it was just effortless class or appeared to be but his control of the game made a lot happen directly and gave us the platform for other players - Evans and Celina most notably but also Fraser - to make a lot more happen. I've ben trying to decide which goal was my favourite, I think the fourth wins out - Penney's first time pass, Celina's perfect cut back and a brilliant finish - wins out over the fifth - completely overloading the defence so that we could all savour Evans' hat-trick as he shot, even before the ball hit the net. The third was possibly more crucial though, we started the second half a bit hesitantly and looked unsure whether to sit back or push forward. A better side might have made us pay for that but we did force our way back into the game. Another goal from an opposition goal kick there too (was that directly after Celina's shot had just gone wide?). So, I don't think it was quite a perfect performance despite the dominance but, on a night when any win would have done, then such a good one will surely give everyone at the club and the fans a lift. Seven points from the last nine is great, 10 from nine games rather less so. We've still got a lot of work to do to catch up but, play like yesterday, and it's going to be fun doing so. Time to watch the goals again now: https://www.skysports.com/football/ipswich-town-vs-doncaster-rovers/report/44800

Well, we had to win last night and that was some way in which to do so on 08:15 - Sep 29 with 1494 views | Herbivore | It was a very good win, once we got that third the players' confidence palpably grew and we totally destroyed them within 10 minutes. People always mockingly say that 2-0 is a dangerous scoreline to take the piss out of Hurst but there's a lot of truth in it. Look at the AFC Wimbledon game for a start. Last night after 65 minutes it had fallen very flat, we'd not got going since half time and had we managed to concede at that point we'd have been in for a very, very nervy finish. Instead we crafted a third and went on to win very comfortably. I have seen us be indifferent in the second half, especially early on, a few too many times and that's something we need to work on. That win should do us the world of good confidence wise though and Morsy coming into the team made such a difference in midfield. Pleasingly, some of the goals came from good team player rather than individual flashes of quality and that's a sign the players are getting more familiar with each other. It's still early days, we're still at the wrong end of the table, but we have now at least given ourselves something to build on over the past three games. The key is to push on from here and go on a run to get us up in the mix as quickly as possible.

Well, we had to win last night and that was some way in which to do so on 08:19 - Sep 29 with 1472 views | Garv | The goal following the goal kick came from Evans' header from the half way line, which he then followed and obviously headed in. There was another of those where he ran about 15 yards to make a header he didn't have any right to that lead to another half chance. He really looked up for it. Did anyone else see the resemblance to Jordan Henderson also? Might just be the long sleeves...

I thought that Evans' celebration after his first goal looked like one of relief, that he knew he hadn't really played well since he's been here but that was going to change.

I was trying to explain to a mate this morning how he played and Henderson is exactly how i described him. Now he has Morsy sitting in next to him, gives him the freedom to play his own game. Looked a complete different player.

Well, we had to win last night and that was some way in which to do so on 09:18 - Sep 29 with 1255 views | SomethingBlue | Morsy and Celina improve us in a fundamental way — they are both desperate to show up, take responsibility and get on the ball. In Celina's case it won't always come off but that doesn't deter him, he keeps coming. It's a priceless quality and rubs off on others. I really can't believe we have players of this standard in L1, I keep saying it but we have to make it count. Last night was a great platform.

I feel like Celina's game has changed slightly since he was with us last time. He doesn't look to run with the ball as much as he used to and plays more like an advanced playmaker, finding space and recycling the ball quickly. He had a couple of efforts last night but his first instinct isn't to go for goal himself to the extent it was when we had him here before. First half he wasn't quite on it last night but second half he was excellent and showed real quality in the build up to a couple of the goals.

Lovely Celina moment last night where the play was switched to him in the inside right channel, and the whole Doncaster back line shifted over as the obvious ball was to Burns on the wing and he instead played a lovely reverse ball inside to Fraser (I think), but it didn't quite come off. Play like that is just levels above what a bad defence like Doncaster will have been used to, and it feels brilliant to have a number of playmakers who can do that now.

Yes, that's accurate. He's a more rounded player now, I think. Took him a little while to warm up last night but thought he started really coming into it around the 25-minute mark and was excellent from then on. So nice to have players who want to take the ball on and set an example — we've lacked them for years.

Yes, crazy that we've obtained a much more matured version than we had last time whilst we are in L1!
Well, we had to win last night and that was some way in which to do so on 10:05 - Sep 29 with 1079 views | itfcjoe | I thought we started both halves quite slowly but think for all the talk of Cook being an attacking manager, his sides have always been built of a solid defence (his Wigan side conceded just 29 goals in League 1) We were totally untroubled, even in our quieter spells and scored some very good goals and dominated the game really - there were 2 very good 15-20 minute periods where we just did not let them settle, let them play, pressed them high and just totally overran them whilst moving the ball quickly and effectively. It was the result we all wanted, and needed - I felt confident and backed us to win by 4 goals or more so had a nice 14/1 winner with it as just felt that it would work last night. The balance of the team greatly improved by Morsy who allowed everyone to play, Celina after a quiet first half hour or so really began to effect the game and Fraser and Burns playing very well at the moment. 7 points from 9 after the Bolton game, and a real chance to string some wins together now - a nice run of fixtures coming up

The next month is a big one — well they all are, but at a time when we really need momentum it's six relatively favourable games, even if only two are at home. I think 12 points is a fair and realistic target; if we get them we'll be in a much better place.

Agree.. both halves for the first twenty minutes we seemed to be sitting deep a little, lower intensity further up the field (although interesting to note that Evans stated they were instructed to go LARGE early to get crowd going, and he felt they had, which was not the case, and as we discussed yesterday the crowd went flat). But as you say Cook starts with a solid defence, and it has started in the last 3 games to look that. Whereas before it looked all over the shop. As Cook rightly points out Burgess and Edmundson (who is clearly a character) looked like strangers against Bolton, not last night. And Donacien is having a very rich vein of form. Add to that Penney being close to MoTM last night, and that clean sheet and solidity is almost as important as the 6 goals. We were totally untroubled. As Cook points out though - in yet another excellent post match interview (how good are they compare to Mick and 'the Pauls') - Doncaster were pretty dead on their feet given their travel of late, AND we have an embarrassment of riches compared to them. BUT we have to beat what's in front of us and in those 2 x 20min spells in each half when we went up a gear, we blew them away, and this had a lot to do with partnerships forming. Much was made of Morsy last night, and he was a stand out contributor, BUT some of the interlinking plat from Fraser to Celine, even Donacien to Burns, that has been coming, building. I actually think Fraser was my MoTM - some of this off the ball movement (often not found, but pulling players away), or close control in tight spaces, and exquisite attacking passing was joy to behold. Aluko and Chaplin, and Harper to some extent looked lively, and having that extra energy is going to be important. So to Accrington, a win there and it starts to look promising and we have our tales up. They got spanked again and are just coming into some bad form, which they'll be desperate to address. Going to be interesting. But let's just savour those 2 periods of dynamic, high quality, and high energy technical football! We''ve waited a long long time for true sustained attacks at Portman Road? Jim Magilton?!?! and you forget the pure joy it brings.

Donacien and Burns look a well balanced, strong combination. And they also played half a season together at Fleetwood last season - it shows.

First near-half of the second half was very scrappy and I was starting to wonder if Doncaster were going to play their way back into it and set up a nervy end. I loved the way we changed things and then went for the jugular once we got the third. It was a slightly defensive change (dropping Fraser deeper) that set the platform and allowed us to take control back of the game. Definitely needed that. Doncaster were crap, but you can only beat who's in front of you. Agreed, it's time to kick on now and there's no excuse not to as the team are all fit and in place and confidence should be high.
