Hello everyone, unfortunately my dad who regularly posted on these forums under the name JoeSoap passed away this morning surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He spent many happy hours on the site and I'm sure many of you will have already been aware of his condition.

I'm really sorry to hear that, as much as your Dad was fatalistic about his illness I'm still saddened and a bit shocked to hear this news.
I hope it's of some comfort to you and the rest of your family that he was held in high esteem by so many who hadn't ever met him.
Yep. I didn't know him, but his matter of fact and pragmatic attitude to his illness really stood out. He seemed like a sound bloke. As others have said, he will be missed.
That's really sad news, thoughts are with you and your family.
Joe was a lovely guy on here, very matter of fact about his cancer, to retain that much of a positive outlook was a bit of an inspiration to be honest.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
Oh man What a bloke your Dad was. I’ve never seen anyone laugh in the face of cancer like Joe. I thought he was going to go on for a lot longer. Gutted! You must be so proud to have such a strong Pa. RIP Joesoap xxx Take care CustardCream COYB
I’m really upset reading this news. Your dad was a well liked poster on here.
He made many posts referencing his illness and they were always made with dry humour and courage. It was always good to see him log on here as it meant he was still with us.
Oh crap! Most of my vitrual exchanges on here with him were on the music threads and his default position was generally Leonard Cohen.......I hope he would approve...
....my deepest sympathy to your family.
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
I felt compelled to log in when I saw this on my phone.
If it's any crumb of comfort at all, your Dad not only had excellent taste in music and the way in which he handled his cancer with dignity and wit was genuinely inspiring. A couple of times or more, I'd have had a bad day and his posts on here reminded me to snap out of it.
Sincere condolences, I will miss seeing his posts light this place up mate.
Well said buh. Completely agree, joesoap was definitely one of the good guys.
So sorry to hear this news, and our condolences to you and the family from myself, KJ and Yasmin
It was a real joy for us to meet and have a good chat with him at EdwardStone’s BBQ weekend last year, and was saddened when he said he wouldn’t be well enough to make it when it was on again earlier this summer.
As others have said, he will be very much missed on here.

I enjoyed JoeSoap, had a few chats about the Portsmouth area and he had a great sense of humour, even more recently despite (and often in relation to) what was forthcoming.
Condolences from myself & Mrs. Pendejo, we both had the pleasure of meeting Joe @ Edwardstone's place in the summer of 2017.
I had messaged him within the last week or so and feared the worst with no reply as he usually replied quite promptly. He had been keen to follow my daughter's progress in Police Cadets due to his former profession.
The way your father talked about his condition with humour and dignity was inspirational and moving. Very sad news and sincere condolences to you and to all his family and friends.
