BANTER ERA NOV 2007 - APRIL 2023 09:55 - Feb 13 with 90221 viewschicoazul

What's your personal highlight of the Banter Era?
For me, the way Delaney told Jewell he was off to live in New York and needed to be let go, and then turned up at Palace a month or so later and enjoyed a promotion and a long career in the top flight.
I also like very much the fact Jewell signed Ingimarsson (sp) simply because they were at the same resort on holiday at the same time and Ingi did of course turn out to be an absolute knacker of a player.
Also the gangsters arriving at Playford Rd looking for Chopra.
What are yours?

I enjoyed a large number of fans getting very excited about how much we sold certain key players for last Summer and convincing themselves that some lower league replacements they had never seen play were going to be better.

Mick trying to implement a fast breaking style in the Summer of 2015 and losing the pressing which had been a key part of our success the year before.

Selling Murphy at the end of the transfer window and not being prepared to pay enough to replace him.

Sheepshanks bidding up David Norris in the press before paying a highly inflated fee even after we had already brought in two alternatives.

Jim going mad when the money arrived is both a Banter Era highlight and a genuine tragedy.

People excitedly telling us how 47 year old Lee Bowyer was going to score 'a dozen goals' despite having scarcely managed 5 for the preceding three seasons and then him turning up, scoring one, getting injured and then retiring. Sorry, he didn't retire, there was a queue of clubs so long asking for his services that he still hasn't made his mind up which one to sign for.

You said I could have a go on your Mrs if we signed Jimmy Bullard permanently...

Lisbie was alright. Looking at some of the people we have signed since he is Messi-esque in comparison.

Christ, Paul Taylor, a player who got better the less he played would be an upgrade on our current lot. He's scored a goal for us, fort starters.

The EADT campaigning vociferously for Magilton to leave then saying nothing when it was apparent that Keane was a far, far, far worse replacement.
