World XI 08:15 - Apr 16 with 3182 viewsitfcjoe

Been doing the rounds on Twitter, a challenge to name the best XI with the following criteria:

- No two players from the same country
- No two can have played for the same club
- All eleven have to have played in your lifetime

I think the last point makes it easier for the older posters on here, but it is bloody hard to get an eligible team together.

My team is:

Jan Oblak (Slovenia)

Phillip Lahm (Germany)
Vincent Kompany (Belgium)
Sergio Ramos (Spain)
Paolo Maldini (Italy)

Roy Keane (Ireland)
Pavel Nedved (Czech Republic)
Gilberto Silva (Brazil)

Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Kylian Mpabbe (France)
Alan Shearer (Englan)

3 Barca players in there....

That’ll teach me not to read the rules. An old failing and back to the drawing board! 😃. And now amended

Dasayev

Cafu
Bergomi
Beckenbauer
Worthington

Gullit
Wark
Gascoigne

Maradona
C Ronaldo
Milla

I have chosen Maradona ahead of Messi due to the fact Maradona pretty much single handedly won the WC for Argentina in 86 and got them to the final again in 90. Messi despite playing alongside better players has only one WC cup final defeat on his CV.

And just think that midfield could well have been an Ipswich midfield.

GK - Chilavert - Paraguay
LB - Maldini - Italy
RB - Alexander-Arnold - England
CB - Aldair - Brazil
CB - Laporte - France
DM - Keane - Ireland
DM - Matthäus - Germany
AM - Okocha - Nigeria
AM - Bale - Wales
AM - Messi - Argentina
FW - Drogba - Ivory Coast

At first sight, I think this team will be under-rated. There would definitely be fights over free-kicks.

Played around with a few teams. But I felt this had more balance. Surprised that I ended up with no Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch or Belgian players, considering there are plenty of quality ones.

My biggest regret was not having Ronaldinho in my team. So I have his mentor from his PSG days.

GK. Neuer (Germany)
DR. Piszczek (Poland)
DC. Van Dijk (Holland)
DC. Thiago Silva (Brazil)
DL. Cresswell (England)
MC. Speed (Wales)
MC. Ndombele (France)
AMR. Messi (Argentina)
AMC. De Bruyne (Belgium)
AML. Ronaldo (Portugal)
SC. Totti (Italy)

I think this team is allowed and is pretty decent overall. No doubt somebody will inform me two of my team played for the same club somewhere along the line though

I could have sworn that De Bruyne was a fans favourite at Tranmere.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

You are right. I will therefore swap Cafu for Carlos Alberto.
