I'd have thought that's a bit premature without genetic analysis! There's no hard and fast rule to distinguish sub-species and seperate species anyway, even genetically. Researchers looking for positive publicity to fund more research etc.

I was fascinated to learn that no-one actually has a clue as to how long whales can live, might be 200 years, might be more.
