It's really not particularly great nomenclature, and isn't used in the British media nowadays for very good reasons (lumping so many different cultures and ethnicities into a homogeneous term is something that in itself is problematic). It belongs in the same historical space as 'coloured'.
(Hate what's happening in this country to Jewish folks, for the sake of clarity, just the BAME thing might not be better known to folks).

"For us at the Holocaust Educational Trust, as in any modern organisation, social media has long given us opportunities to reach new audiences and to hold important conversations. Yet last month we took the unprecedented decision to turn off comments on a post on our X (formerly Twitter) account due to the sickening nature of the antisemitic responses we were receiving.
Comments including “Holocaust is fake zionist jews story and did not happened” and “no one believes jews lies anymore” [sic].
In between the outright denial of the Holocaust were slogans: “From the River to the Sea… Israehell will never be”; “Keep the world clean” accompanied by an image of the star of David being thrown in the bin; and a comment about Hamas that said “they are freedom fighters fighting the occupiers’s [sic] they have all of my support”. These were all under a single post.
You may assume that this was the response to something directly mentioning Israel, or the antisemitism that is continuing to grow at a rapid rate as a result of the conflict, but you would be mistaken. Rather, these were responses to a post marking the 85th anniversary of the arrival of Jewish children to safety in the UK on the Kindertransport. They were posted below a video of 93-year-old Vera Schaufeld MBE, who was recounting her own memories of leaving behind everything she knew in Czechoslovakia – including her family, who went on to be exterminated by the Nazis – and coming to a safe haven in the UK."
The article concludes.
"Anti-Jewish hate is on the march, and this time the world must not turn its back. Let us all make it our new year resolution to finally stamp out antisemitism, Islamophobia and hate. Let’s make 2024 the year when we finally find a cure for this poison."

Can we avoid using BAME please?

About five years ago you would be admonished if you *didn't* use BAME. Who decides these things? What knowledge has been gained by the human race in the last five years to change the status of a word i.e. why was lumping different cultures into a homogenous term not spotted 5 years ago by those forcing us to use the term?
I'm happy to not offend people by using words that may find offensive, so I'm not making a particular stand here, there just doesn't seem to be much logic underpinning this.

Well, this whole thread is about Jews, so it's weird it is being used at all, but I do agree that it can be difficult sometimes with these things.

Some absolute numbers at last. So with the usual proviso that one case is too many and 10 is ten times too many, these numbers surely suggest we are talking about the actions of a few misguided individuals and not the rebirth of Nazi Germany.

But percentage increases are much easier to understand the context, because;-
1) people identifying as Jewish represent less than half a percent (<0.5pc) of the population of England and Wales. Therefore of course the scale of crimes will be small in comparison to other minority groups (eg. There are around TWELVE TIMES more Muslims - around 6,5pc of the population). With that context then the hate crimes against Jewish people are proportionately much higher.
2) again these are only reported incidents. Given the uselessness of our police force, I suspect many people don’t even bother to report it.

For most other minorities talking about bigotry they’ve experienced, if someone not from that minority began lecturing them about how *they’ve* hardly ever seen such bigotry, we’d usually assume said person was far-right.
You make a very good point though. Jews make up just 0.5% of the England and Wales population, but even before the events of 7/10 Antisemitic hate crimes accounted for 23 per cent of all religious hate crimes in the UK.
What I don’t understand is why somebody would spend so much of their time on here trying to minimise hate crimes against a certain minority community? And why just this minority community?

There's a big space between 'a few misguided individuals' and 'the rebirth of Nazi Germany'. Maybe you're shielded from the truth nature of what's happening in certain parts of the country, so don't fully understand?
There's also lots of stuff going on that isn't necessarily criminal, but still very unsettling. Imagine being a Jewish kid in or around this school for example: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/barclay-primary-school-leyton-lo this story has been all over the local Facebook groups for weeks, with some proper conspiracy stuff floating around it.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

There is a big space between a concerning uptick in incidents of antisemitism and "the World becoming fcuking scary for Jews" too. I added the article for information only and to give detail to some of what has been claimed which, as usual, has been replied to in the usual smeary manner by you know who.

It's a horrible situation that should not be tolerated at all. I don't think claiming that the UK is becoming like Germany in the 1930's is particularly helpful however. Nor is implying that anybody who disagrees is an antisemite.

So "for information only and to give detail", you appear to be on a thread solely for raising awareness of rising antisemitism.... basically saying "it's not as bad as you're making out", even stating the very nature of the thread title is an overreaction.
Don't you have a soapbox you could crawl back under?

But really you have proven how much more Jewish people are being impacted by hate crimes.
The article states that in greater Manchester 74 antisemitisic incidents were reported, given there are only around 28k Jewish people in Greater Manchester that’s 1 in 400 Jewish people have reported hate crimes.
Islamophobic crimes reported in W Yorkshire (49) out of approx 280k Muslims would be around 1 in 5,700. So I don’t agree that the incidents are only on a small scale, because that lacks the context of the relatively small Jewish community in the UK.

For the 100th I didn’t say the UK was becoming like Germany in the 1930’s. I said what we are seeing in London in 2023 such as Jewish business having yellow stars sprayed on them is like something we would have seen in Nazi Germany in the 1930’s. The EU Commission have said the same, as has the Chief Rabbi. Stephen Fry referenced it in hi s Xmas day broadcast.
I stand by it. Some of what we have seen in the streets of London would not be out of place in 1930’s Germany. I would imagine it’s the first thought of the Hewish business owner who sees his shop defaced with a yellow star.

I wasn't after proving or disproving anything but glad you have found the use of absolute numbers useful. I'm not sure I made any comparison with Islamophobia so not really sure where you are going there. What I was highlighting is how percentage increases can make something appear much worse,
"West Midlands police recorded 22 antisemitic offences from 7 October to 7 November, compared with one (2022) and eight (2021),"
which would be an increase of 22 or 2,200% (Which sounds the more alarming?)

Do you have a problem with data about antisemitism being put on a thread about antisemitism? You will note that not for the first time I added a proviso.

I think they are equally concerning. There are only an estimated 4,000 Jewish people in the West Midlands which puts the latest figures at 1 in 180 Jewish people reporting incidents. So yes 22 incidents is alarming given the percentage of Jewish people that impacts.
Stop doubling down. You spend all your efforts on here just arguing pointless semantics.

Well said. It's very easy for Banksy and other to minimise the feelings of Jewish people from their position of white privilege. It is fcuking scary for Jews around the world at the moment. I and others have linked several examples of why this is the case.
Here's another one.
Obviously the young Jewish girls who have to walk past this near the entrance to thir school should just suck it up.
As I've said before, I have no idea why he has spent nearly a decade on here dismissing and minimising antisemitism when it has been highlighted. There isn't a thread on this subject that he hasn't jumped on. He obviously has his reasons.

Spot on. The historical comparison between the UK and 1930,s Germany is pretty ludicrous and not helpful in any way. As for the undertone that if you don't agree with every word of the thread then your in someway antisemitic thats pretty vile
