I agree but many had (and still have) a rahing hard on for keane despite the damage he was causing so it was obviously important to them

The funniest thing about the Famous Roy apologists was that they were all for him but HATED Magilton. End of the day, they were both grumpy Irishmen who fell out with players but only one of them was actually half-decent at his job.

If you’re claiming that others still have a raging hard-on for Keane what the hell fo you have for Mick? The lube and anal beads on standby 24/7 just in case you see him?

He is such a beautiful man The key difference obviously been that one destroyed the club and the other saved it.

Whilst I think we would all like a "nice bloke" that plays attractive attacking football getting results and using our youth players. I suspect that as much of this is subjective the only real way to judge a manager and ultimately the only real measurement is results though I would caveat that by taking into account the money invested and level at which we are playing

How should we judge managers? on 11:20 - Feb 3 with 1420 views | shady | Good points have been raised already. I'll add: The Doctors maxim: Do No Harm. Egos may get bruised for the greater good, but dismantling an entire forward line was a gigantic own goal. A manager (or a member of his team) should be able to coach and improve the players. Consider a poker hand, sometimes it may not amount to much; however that doesn't mean a defeat is inevitable. Once upon a time we punched above our weight. Now, everybody loves punching us. A good manager would not allow that situation to develop and persist.

How should we judge managers? on 15:10 - Feb 3 with 1286 views | jayessess | As a manager? League position vs. budget is the bottom line. Doing significantly better than you should be? Good job. Achieving more or less what your budget says you should? OK job. If that's all you manage year after year might eventually be worth changing, unless you can point to something else admirable. Achieving significantly less than your budget? Get gone, sooner rather than later.

I agree that there's lots of ways you can subjectively judge a managers performance that require context and for example why McCarthy's time was up despite results being ok for our budget (and why from an outside point of view this looked like a bad decision). Results aren't the be all and end all, so if you're underperforming but building an identify, giving experience to (your own) young players and there are genuine signs of progress then these can be forgiven. Equally if you're near the top of the league but not playing well and it isn't looking likely that this form will be sustained then that can still be despite poor management e.g. Ipswich at the start of this and last season. Ultimately though league position is the way that teams are judged and I don't see many positive factors from the subjective points that you mentioned previously so the current management should be judged poorly.

In game tactics - Mick? I can't remember him changing anything in game, if that's what you mean. 'Well dun lads, we're 1 oop at 'alf time and doin greaat. Chambo, keep chipping ball down t'channel.' 'Unlucky lads we're 1 down at 'alf time but still doin greaat. Chambo, keep chipping ball down t'channel.' Hurst possibly for man management?

Really? I remember plenty Most notable trailing at Barnsley and Micks ends up playing 4 strikers and Waggy bags the winner How many times did he send Verney or someone like that on to nick a win. Same for Noel Hunt etc. Moved Murphy to left wing or forward depending on the score

I'm sure you're tight, I just don't remember. Those years have all merge into one vague, hazy memory of being bored (which I know isn't fair on Mick as it wasn't always dull).
