Isn’t it the case that players of that age don’t count against the squad limit, as was the case with John-Jules?
In which case we’d probably be willing to sign THE targets and have a bit of insurance with Ferguson type players too given the injuries that can suddenly accumulate. | | | |

I am not sure we should be looking at youngsters who would be making their first loan move. There is a big adjustment to make on and off the pitch, being away from parent club for first time.
Ferguson has just turned 18 and has one first team game for Brighton in the EFL cup. If we are looking at young loanees, then TJJ has a better profile, with two previous loan spells including in L1 before joining us this season. | | | |

Does any club announce its January signings in December? I'd have thought it's just a normal courtesy towards the selling club to delay announcements until the player is actually transferred, rather than a matter of keeping the current squad happy. |  | | |

Additionally, there is often no guarantee that some of these arrangements are binding and to announce anything simply alerts others to the availability of a player ... which sometimes means agents announce things rather than clubs, possibly. |  |

I think in the Summer we developed a habit of getting doable deals for squad players done early, so we could take riskier stuff further into the window.
So we get Greg Leigh early in the window, which meant we could wait on Leif Davis.
We got Kayden Jackson on a new contract and Freddie Ladapo signed early in the window, so when we didn't get our striker targets later on it wasn't a total disaster.
Could well see the thinking behind Luongo and Ferguson being that restoring our pre-season depth (replacing Ball and TJJ) is the minimum target for the window and then after that we can afford a bit more patience? |  |

He has history with Sheffield Wednesday and there will probably be some Championship clubs viewing him as a cheap punt.
