Truss became Tory leader on the back of her tax cutting, go for growth strategy which clearly appealed to party members. I thought it was bonkers at the time & when it was clear that her mini-budget, cooked up with Kwarteng, was going to be totally unsustainable in terms of the cost of the borrowing required, she was a busted flush (or Truss). I assume Hunt had pointed out to her the size of the climb-down that was required & that made her (and Kwarteng's) position untenable.

Yes, holding that mini-budget (which everyone will now call it despite Truss & Kwarteng's attempts to claim it as otherwise) was not necessary, to do it without the OBR analysis and after sacking Tom Scholar was hubristic.
She might have managed three or four months as PM otherwise.

"without the OBR analysis"?
I don't think they even discussed it with her own immediate members did they?
Even I gave her 'til Xmas but am glad that particular latest shambles is over.

They didn't even inform the Bank of England about the mini budget.
They can ignore the advice from the BoE, which would have been WTF!, but just to miss them out of the loop altogether was just plain nuts.
Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?
Not really. She was a symptom of the out of touch Tory party and their dysfunctional and divisive approach to everything.
1. She came in with an un-costed and flawed economic plan that was vaguely popular with out of touch, rich people. 2. She arguably delivered it quicker and harder than expected whilst ignoring or firing civil servants and QUANGOS 3. She was a lame duck when market forces outed it as an enormous and tone deaf punt

Not sure if you listen to this, but Tortoise did this episode on the whole situation and it was excellent as much as unbelievable
I've just been to a pub for a swift one. The clientele are mainly retired/elderly. The views would make your hair curl, firmly on the Braverman wing even if by their logic she'd be on the first plane back. Bringing them and the Johnny Mercers together will take some doing.

One of my friends posted 'Good riddance' on social media - and the first reply was from some random who's main points were:
- The shambles is all part of the left wing establishment's conspiracy to undermine Brexit - Truss was too moderate - Would welcome Braverman as the new PM because she has the right idea on immigration - Need a leader to come out and properly stick Brexit up the backside of remoaners and those damn foreigners
My friend responded in the first instance thinking this was a parody - but it became very clear they were serious.
I just sat there staring at the comment wondering what on earth had happened to this poor person for them to genuinely arrive at this point of view. I mean, at least in the US, they had eight years of Democrats ruling the country before Trump - how can anyone have lived the last 12 years under Tory rule conclude that what the country needs is even more conservative Tories than the ones we've had ruling the country???

I may have to post as with those fans " lets pretend, lets pretend we've scored a goal"
as the bloater will not even be nominated, never mind anything else
It ill-becomes a man to gloat, but fck it, why not ?
Unfortunately I only had £30 on Sunak, but that was 10 days ago, when the odds were 9/2. Reasoned that once Truss was gone the odds would drop meaning I would have to stake more money to get the same return - and nothing is ever certain, just a degree of probability
Where now for the porcine piffle paffle Meister. ?
The fact that he was booed when getting on the plane might have told him something.. The few he did round up were the freaks, nutters and social oddities, should have told him he no chance long before he withdrew
Three shattering by election defeats, and polling the worst figures for a UK PM in history* would have given wiser souls a clue.
I think it was glassers who pointed out that Johnson had not turned up for a vote since July (1st) - much as the shy tehawk Farage who had the worst attendance record ever in the EU parliament (the other was in hospital). Self serving toads who care not a jot about those they claim to represent.
The last few weeks have shown up these charlatans. Farage has been no where to be seen since his cretinous remarks about the mini budget. The odious stick insect and the financially questionable Zahawi were endorsing the bloater minutes before he caved in
The best Sunak can do is damage limitation, trying to stave off the inevitable GE long enough that the Tories poll ratings don't point towards the biggest wipe out in UK history.
And that means taking head on the ERG and it's swivel eyed members whose very policies have done so much damage to the country
I wish him well, if only that hemight benefit those most vulnerable in our society.
