Vaccine process was just quietly changed by the Government on 23:22 - Dec 30 by 26_Paz | What reason does the government have to purposefully ruin its own vaccination programme? |
It is gambling it will still be effective after 12 weeks, whereas the Pfizer boss is saying he can’t guarantee it after 21 days. It is taking the short term gain of getting a few million vaccinated and hoping that one dose gets us to Spring. If I was a betting man, i’d say we’ll see Pfizer and AZ vaccines combined within the next 6 months. 1 dose of each.

One thing I find remarkable is your changing sides , before the last election you were on here day after day slating Corbyn , there was only gonna be 2 parties that could of won the last election , yet people like you were slating Corbyn leading to a Tory majority , now one thing I do believe is a socialist government would of handled this pandemic a lot better , it would not of been profits before people which it is now , my conscience is clear , I voted labour , your sh it show of a party had your chance when you went into bed with the tories

How have I changed sides? Corbyn was unelectable and i still think the Tories are a shower. My conscience is clear, because ai don’t make policy for political parties.

Vaccine process was just quietly changed by the Government on 22:35 - Dec 30 by ElderGrizzly | Pfizer boss rather blunt in his assessment today: “Pfizer said there was 'no data' in its studies to show its vaccine protects against Covid when taken 12 weeks apart. In a thinly-veiled swipe at the UK, the US firm warned that any 'alternative' dosing regimens should be closely monitored by health authorities. 'Data from the phase three study demonstrated that, although partial protection from the vaccine appears to begin as early as 12 days after the first dose, two doses of the vaccine are required to provide the maximum protection against the disease, a vaccine efficacy of 95 per cent,' Pfizer said in a statement. 'There are no data to demonstrate that protection after the first dose is sustained after 21 days” |
Well that's not good and hopefully they will reconsider that one. AstraZeneca seem very bullish on the number of doses coming our way and hopefully we can focus on that while using the Pfizer one how they tell us to use it. Thankfully in Ipswich due to lack of ultra cold storage we should be using the Oxford one.

Don't think anyone's suggesting it's trying to "purposefully ruin", but we're well used to this government's bungling, so it'd be no surprise if it gets one or both vaccination programmes horribly wrong as well, in its desperation to try and pull this latest crisis back from the brink.

We’ve paid for 40 million doses of Pfizer, so it will get used! It’s being used in village GP surgeries around here, so surprised Ipswich won’t be doing the same

I think getting us to spring is the plan. Get a degree of immunity in the most vulnerable now, get to spring when respiratory illnesses are less of a problem and then you’ve got until October / November to get everyone fully vaccinated. Or am I missing something?

I'm sure it will get used and it should. Seems stupid gambling with it when AstraZeneca say they can provide 20m+ by the end of March. I can see things moving very quickly in Ipswich once it's rolled out. Trinity Park is massive and it sounds like the council are preparing for a huge rollout.

Vaccine process was just quietly changed by the Government on 23:27 - Dec 30 by vapour_trail | Maybe come offline a bit more. Or consider a change in working environment. You were on here and other platforms late last night, early this morning, late again this evening, briefing against your employer, which isn’t unusual for you. I wouldn’t be happy working for somewhere I had so little time for the leadership. Either way, take a break from online when you’re not working and clear your head. |
Thanks for checking up on me dad, even if a little creepy :) It’s cathartic to ‘talk’ about it tbh. And I work where I do because despite what the Government/political leadership does, we do bloody good work that does change lives overseas for the better.

Yeah I assume this is the case. Think there’s real panic about where we might go this winter, so patch it up and then plan longer term.

4 weeks was the timeframe used in the media. The Pfizer boss this afternoon said 21 days, which he said after I wrote the OP! And importantly, not 12 weeks... [Post edited 30 Dec 2020 23:43]

Exactly, give the most vulnerable a single dose in jan / feb. If that’s only 50% effective you reduce hospital admissions by half, pressure on NHS is gone. You’ve then got 6 months or more to hit herd immunity by next winter. Sounds pretty sensible to me.

But not as sensible as using the Pfizer one how we're told and doing that strategy with the vaccine where this has actually been researched and is up to 70% effective.

You put yourself out there as the keyworker under pressure. Own it or don’t. That’s fine re why you work there, but you take an odd approach to it, IMHO. You might want to consider how you fight the power, if you want to get a bit more senior and have a serious chance of making an impact.

And more importantly , what does the Pfizer boss know about his competitors product , he is obviously not going to say it’s better than his one is he

I agree that is fine and sensible for the AZ vaccine if they say it will work after 12 week gap. Maybe we’ll delay use of the Pfizer vaccine until the summer and until we can deliver it as the manufacturer says? We’ll have lots more research by then too and probably 2 more vaccines to play with as well. See, i’m positive :)

Possibly. Depends just how dire the predictions are for the next two or three months. I get the sense they’re shltting themselves on the potential scenes about to emanate from our hospitals.

If Tony Blair is right and the J&J one is coming by the end of January then we really shouldn't be gambling. A better strategy would be to try and find the most critical cases and use it how we were told to. Make every dose count.
