I have been told this morning that Luke Chambers has been informed we won’t be taking up the extra year in his contract.
Apparently he is still wanted at the club, and the club are trying to get him in a role somewhere behind the scenes. I guess it will all depend if Chambers still wants to play, even if that be elsewhere.

I don't think he's good enough personally, so the right decision for me.
As per the EADT list last night of contracts, I'd look to maybe have the following with * stick around, but wouldn't be devastated if none of them did:
Ipswich Town contracts

Interesting. The reality is that if the club is serious about getting into the Championship, it needs players better than what it has. That includes Chambers.
At 35 he isn’t going to improve so there is no point in continuing as is. If he goes elsewhere it’ll be for a year or so and it won’t be to a higher level. Given he is settled in the area, if they can find a role for him, he wants that and is intending staying in the game in some capacity, he might be wise to accept that. Keeping his registration as a player could be a smart move for all concerned too. |  | | |

I'm not sure what I think about this. Perhaps you can have a centre back pairing who are operating under different instructions; i.e. one who is told to put his boot through it because he doesn't have the skills to play it out from the back on the whole, and the other who has the remit of getting it down and looking for the ball into a playmaking midfielder.
Don't see why that shouldn't work really, it could even make the team more unpredictable and difficult to play against, although I'd much rather see two solid ball-playing defenders. |
I don't think you have him as a starter in a promotion-chasing team. His rash decisions have lessened, potentially in line with playing more, so there's the risk that if he's rusty, he's rash. Adequate (relatively cheap, I'd assume) backup. |  |

I keep forgetting about Donacien, he’s never been horrific and seems a decent league 1 player. Never really given a good chance here.
A lot of people dismissing Toto but he’s been fine since Cook came in. |
Take a look at the Wimbledon game - 2 mins in total. Not sure thats fine. Lots wrong all over the park, but Totos stray passes and poor positioning isn't for me in a promotion chasing team. We need to look for better.

I would imagine a role with our youngsters would be his best bet. Somebody mentioned previously about the possibility of having a ‘loan manager’ where Chambers would help with our young players going out on loan and also their well-being and mental health, especially after the criticism the club has received lately on this subject.
For the record, I haven’t been told anymore than “the club are looking at getting him in behind the scenes” so this part is just my perception. | | | |

Think this is harsh.
Toto has been decent lately and I think we should keep him for next season. I'd keep him ahead of Chambers who is going to be 36 when the season starts.
Chambers should definitely have a role at the club if he wants one though.

The only player I’ve seen Cook go out of his way to praise is Woolfenden though. I know I keep banging the drum but I think he’s been hung out for dry this season - first unnecessarily being expected to be a senior centre back whilst learning the game himself and then having to cover a secondary position.
Now, it could be he is the type of player who needs a carrot rather than a stick but, in his player ratings, Andy Warren seems to expect him to hang around too. Phil says there may be only two senior players (over 21) who keep their place on the squad; my suspicion at the moment is it will be Woolfenden and Downes, with us stretching to keeping hold of KVY if he can get through the rest of the season without picking up another injury. | |

I don't disagree necessarily, but somebody would take him for a fee this summer I'm sure.

I disagree about Nsiala. Sure, he isn't a fluid, ball-playing centre back - but then few are at this level. What he is great at is putting himself in the way of shots heading goalward. Think how frequently we hear the words "good block by Toto". That's an important asset. |
Although sometimes the "good block by Toto" is immediately after Toto has given the ball away.
I think that Toto is adequate at this level but no more than that. He will sometimes have a MOTM performance if the team are under pressure but we will never be under pressure next season, will we? |  | | |

Nsiala did just that for Shrewsbury and has done for us in a season where our issue has been goals.
Really don't see why people don't like him. Worth a place in the squad surely? Especially if Chambers and Wilson go. That's two new CBs as well as Woolf and Nsiala. Looks good enough to me? |  |

This always confuses me. We all agree that the mentality around the first team squad is atrocious, don't we?
Does that imply that the captain's voice, at best, doesn't have much impact in our dressing room? Why would we care if he's around to talk to the youth? |  |

You need to ask yourself why he ends up having to make so many blocks. Classic sign of a defender with next to no positional sense. Alex Bruce springs to mind.
In short, he's a complete and utter liability. I don't understand why so many fans seem to have a blindspot where Nsiala is concerned. He makes James Wilson look like Jaap Stam. |  |

That was my understanding as well, although club didn't confirm one way or the other when I asked a while back.
