"Don't travel to amber countries even though it's legal".
If they don't want people to travel to them then move them all onto red or not allowed at all. It's ridiculous, the mixed messages are just pathetic and they are pushing the decision making onto the public rather than make the difficult decisions themselves.

Well, that's exactly it, you paraphrased it, missing out crucial information.
The actual quote is: “Our advice is that no one should be travelling to amber list countries, in the interests of public health,” he said when asked why amber list holidays were on sale. “There may be unavoidable, essential reasons for people to travel to amber list countries.”
It hasn't just become legal today, it's been legal for weeks. They don't want people to travel for leisure, but essential travel is permitted. It's really not that hard to understand.
There are many many things the government should be castigated for, but this isn't one of them |
The whole thread has been specifically about leisure as were my posts, you were the one who diverted it to business and that wasn't what anyone else was discussing. It's also not true, in order to leave you required a justification which needed to be recorded in a form and presented at immigration.
My posts are all fine in the context of the original discussion.

Indeed. Mrs Paz is off to Romania for 2 weeks next month. She’s visiting her grandma who is the only family member still over there. She hasn’t seen any family for a year and a half. That kind of thing is different I think. Mrs Paz is double vaccinated so should be pretty safe. |

But this is because tourism is permitted in some places, so rather than adding exemptions to the law every 3 weeks, they've removed the law. But declaration or no declaration, you can never be able to prove a reason for someone's trip.
Regardless on whether there's a law or not, the message in the article is clear: Go on holiday to green countries. Don't go on holiday to amber ones.

I clearly said that if the government believed that people shouldn't travel to amber countries even though it's legal they should make it illegal. As it stands they are allowing something they don't think you should do so they can divert blame when it all goes wrong.
