Barrow at home on 23:13 - Nov 8 with 1380 views | HighgateBlue | Let's not get too big for our boots - we haven't even earned the right to play them yet. We couldn't even beat Oldham at home, and they're right near the foot of league 2. Maybe our fortunes will start to turn around when we learn some humility. We have no god given right...
Barrow at home on 23:33 - Nov 8 with 1351 views | IPS_wich | A bittersweet draw for me (assuming we win the replay). My best mate back in the UK is a life long Barrow fan. I’ve probably been to a dozen non-league games against the likes of Chelmsford, Braintree and other teams in the South East with him. Have a real soft spot for them and was delighted when they got promoted to League Two a couple of years ago. Their fans are pretty special, probably clock more miles than any other team in the country (for those who are sad it’s not an away draw, then imagine the Plymouth trip and add another hour or two) and effectively living a fairy tale at the moment. Would have loved to take him to Portman Rd, show him the statues and to enjoy a drink before and help him drown his sorrows a bit. He’s already messaged me to say how excited he is to get to Portman Rd.

Barrow at home on 22:23 - Nov 8 by SitfcB | What do you expect in the first and second rounds? It’s a good draw imo. No travelling to some far flung part of the country. Hopefully we can get the job done v Oldham. Start a strong team, get it win then make the 5 subs. Go again v Barrow and let’s get a big team home or away in the third round (a shame AFC Wimbledon game will be moved though) |
I was hoping either for somewhere local to me for selfish reasons, or one of the non-league clubs away from home. I suppose Barrow are a bit different, with them only recently getting in to League 2, but Buxton or St Albans away would have been ideal. Like you say, if we make it to round 3 that's where it starts to get interesting.

Barrow at home on 22:39 - Nov 8 by clive_baker | Good draw. It’s R2, it’s never going to be a spectacular draw as there’s no spectacular teams in it. Main thing is it’s at home which minimises travel, and it’s against lower league opposition which gives us a great chance of winning. |
On our day, we're a spectacular team.

Surprisingly, they're not even in the top five for miles covered in league 2. Exeter, Carlisle, Hartlepool, Crawley, Colchester all put in more miles ... though that bit around Morecambe Bay must take a good while and may make some of their trips longer in time than Carlisle's. (A few years ago I was at Peterborough services on the first day of the season and saw 2 busloads of Dover fans on their way to Barrow. It made me appreciate how much English people really do like football.) [Post edited 9 Nov 2021 0:01]

Barrow at home on 02:02 - Nov 9 with 1259 views | harlingblue | A good draw for us at home against Barrow, and a chance to progress, but we need to show much more desire to do well in this competition. To even be a part of this game we need to beat Oldham in the replay. To our current Town players, please respect this competition, because as former winners, in the distant past, it means so much to us supporters...we were the 'underdogs' in those days, as you will be if you meet loftier opposition in future rounds that are not yet sustained. Motorway services stops - even in the 80s when it could get dodgy very quickly, used to like the mingling at the services. Met some (good) crazy people, a guy who lived in Hatfield on his way to watch Halifax, is the one that stands out. And some (bad) crazies... Mansfield Town fans at Grantham Services. Trying to work out some of the obscure ones, badges I didn't recognise, as they passed the coaches in the motorways. Back to the present, met a Geordie wearing claret and blue.... Agreed ! Sometimes people have a go at England for having a sense of entitlement at the World Cup and Euros. But I always think that maybe we DO just love football a teeny bit more than, say, the French and the Spanish - (and how hard can it be to be an away fan in Holland?) As I say, I think of the services and the buses carrying Yeovil fans and Eastleigh fans etc to north Yorkshire and beyond. You might as well accuse Norway of having a sense of entitlement when it comes to cross-country skiing. It's not entitlement, it's passion. And like you, I do remember the whiff of excitement of a Saturday services stop in the 1980s. Like smoking in pubs, it's probably something we shouldn't be nostalgic for. (Are there still signs around the country saying 'No Football Coaches'? For some reason, it was always Bobby Ferguson I thought of when I saw one.)

It's a little tinpot anyway this idea to getting to round 3. We're Ipswich. We entered at round 3 for decades. I hope we keep getting winnable ties. I don't want us to get United away so little old Ipswich can go on a day trip.

In fairness, Cook picked a very strong side on Saturday. It backfired, but not nearly as much criticism as he would have got if he played a reserve XI. He's bound to pick all the fringe players tonight, which again I think is right. Given Town's now busy fixture list for November, I think he'll make plenty of changes for the Oldham replay, but I can'y say I'll blame him. Would still be nice to get to the 3rd round, though.
