If Cook was to get sacked in the near future 22:17 - Dec 1 with 4439 viewsnodge_blue

Who is available out there that would take this club forward?

I'm not an expert on lower league type managers that we could attract or are available. But I'm struggling to think of anyone. Some of the ones that are doing ok won't be released by the club's. Ones out of work right now??

Maybe we need a foreign manager. Be our first.

We should definitely sack the guy who’s won league 1 and 2 multiple times and done well in the championship , for the guy who’s got a sum total of 19:league games managerial experience in England and 7 points better off after 19 games than Cook…

Makes sense

What about the bloke who marooned us in division three form a promising position last season and looks likely to the do the same, only with allegedly better players? We should probably sack him, right?

The guy with the squad of league 2 and “unattached” players, with a tendency to react badly when asked if they wouldn’t mind upping the levels a tad ?

He probably needs time and a decent squad.

The only Muff in Town.

We should definitely sack someone who's performing worse than our worst ever manager tho.

I like Cook as a manager, has done very well wherever he has been, but that doesn’t mean it will automatically bring success here.

I think you need to give managers time, and I will never call for a Town managers head - however he has had 4 months with this squad, and my biggest concern is we look worse as them 4 months have gone on, you’d have hoped it would be the reverse.

He needs to find remedies to the issues quickly, because we are regressing, not progressing.

I don't think you need to worry too much about it because I don't think there are any plans to sack him this season.

there will be a change if December is a car crash points wise, and there is every chance it will be.

I'm sure the owners wont just be here to watch the football. They have probably also made plans to access how we are doing, talk about the January window and other improvements around the club.

They probably hoped discussing the manager wouldn't be no1 on the list...but it will be

Probably not after letting them bring in 20 new players and only giving them 19 league games to get it right. Particularly when said guy has previously and recently been highly successful.

Makes us start to look like the next Watford.

AIye, I get the impression he doesn't have as big a soft spot for town as other former players. Not saying he doesn't like the club or anything, but he's always very mechanical when talking about his playing days here.

Well, you started it by saying that the manager of a side that sits top 6 is performing worse then the one in 11th.

I don't think Cook is a master coach, I think he requires good players of a certain mould, to work hard and play a certain system, but when he gets this, it works.

Whether this will get us out of the division or not, I'm sure.

For me, some of the recruitment hasn't worked out, which leaves us short of fitting Cooks inflexible system.

Saying that, someone has to be held accountable for the recruitment. How much of this is Cook and how much Ashton we'll never know. From what we've been told it lies with Cook. Saying that signings like Edwards and Harper sound more like the type Ashton would push for with future profits in mind and WBA links. Even then though, they are both super talented so Cook may have been all for it.

Hladky has cost us points, not sure how he gets ahead of Holy tbh.

We seem a CB short to partner Edmundson.

Both full back slots are up for grabs. Coulson injured, Penney not consistent enough for me. KVY shaky and JD showed promise, especially defensively, wouldn't be so bad if we had a flying LB but at the moment we don't.

Neil Warnock would be a woeful appointment.

Warnock would get us out of this division no problem, and then consolidate us in the Championship, after which we could look to move on. Would be a perfect appointment. Horses for courses.

Have you not seen the excellent Wembley 2000 documentary?! He's almost in tears talking about how Ipswich will always be in his heart.

He's not going to come here, and I wouldn't want him to now to be honest - a fantastic manager, and no doubt would be a good one here - but with the investment we have now we need to be looking at a manager with a high ceiling, that could potentially manage a top club one day. Look at someone like Graham Potter, when he left Ostersunds to go to Swansea is the profile of manager we should be after

Lets face it, if we properly sorted out the defence, and got someone strong to play alongside Morsy, we would be there or thereabouts.

I don't think Jack Ross exactly failed at Sunderland. He lead the team to the playoff final, then the next season he was fired when he was sat six in October. This was following a takeover and a team that was really not in great shape.

In all honesty, I would kill to be sat 6th right now.
[Post edited 1 Dec 2021 22:54]

And they got 85 points or so and came 4th, and got to the Papa Johns Final too as well - he just drew too many games but his record there is incomparable to Cook or Lambert here.

Plus whilst he had a big budget, it was one of those ones that was so badly structured it wasn't always a help - i.e. Jack Rodwell being on £3m a year which would be more than most teams at this level.
