Weren't they busy sorting out that functioning roundabout at the bottom of Civic Drive to replace it with traffic lights, or something else that was desperately needed?

Certainly a new entrance I think, I believe Ashton has mentioned before that the changing rooms are a long way away from the players entrance before. That said, I doubt new changing rooms, that would go, inevitably, with a new Cobbold Stand, but given the money about to be spent on the dugouts, that will be a few years away yet, or at least you'd think so as you'd imagine a switch of dugouts to the other side of the pitch with a new stand. Maybe I'm wrong though, and the club see the corner tunnel as historic. Looking forward to Ashton's update on infrastructure next week. [Post edited 18 Mar 2022 10:15]

I suppose, If you think about it, with the fanzone etc where it is, there is no way to develop a new east stand either. So maybe thats the plan before the Cobbold? God I'm excited.

Gamechanger 20 Ltd has acquired the land behind the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand on 11:17 - Mar 18 with 1238 views | dirtyboy | I'm not going to pretend I know what's going on, but in my eyes, GC20 are definitely looking at this with a long term view now. Short term, I don't see anything exciting, the land and units may well sit as is, tennants in situ and a return that's probably just about okay, so regardless of what happens with ITFC, they have an asset that's likely to bring a return. Where it gets a little bit more exciting is when we look longer term. That end of the ground (Russel Road) has the modern(ish) courts and council building and from an arrival point of view, the ground can be opened up significantly. Options could be as simple as parking, but stand expansion inc hotel or stand alone hotel, but given this community phrase I hear them mention a lot, I think external works in respect of the experience of being around the stadium will also be high on the agenda. You only have to look at the Phoenix / Tidewater projects as being something they believe enhances value to not only an asset (the club) but the entire area and investment ultimately drives further investment. In simplistic terms, a tired street with tired houses....one family sticks new windows and doors in, paints up, does the garden...neighbours or people moving in see the potential and do the same, before long the entire street has had investment and as a result...a better place and ero more expensive and more potential on sale value. Ultimately, none will come to fruition if promotion to Premier League doesn't take place, but it's careful planning and one day, we may see something really take shape and benefit Ipswich for generations.

They haven't aged well by the looks of things, I knew someone who bought one a few years ago and found that there were a lot of issues. Think they were sold under the premise of "High End" at the time, but in the intervening years, rack and ruin seems to be the word of the day.

did the players actually buy them ? or was it the club bought them and leased them out to the players whilst they were at the club ? I mean Pablo didnt buy a flat down at the waterfront, that was leased via the club.

The corner tunnel may well be historic & "quaint", but imho is now entirely the wrong image for us - ie that we're outdated, behind the times, a rural & quaint backwater eternally looking back to past glories instead of ahead. I wonder how players, of both home & away clubs, feel about it? Personally, I'd be delighted if any re-structuring were to give us an impressive new pitchside players' entrance. Hotel and leisure complex would obviously make sense, not least in giving the visiting Americans a great place to stay, with home from home comforts, without having to shell out small fortunes to local hotels that perhaps don't even offer the level of accom. required. Both Croft and Wright bought them, I know Croft bought a number of properties in and around the area, one of which was near Park Road as he lived quite close. Believe Croft now has his own Estate agency in Grimsby so obviously had an interest in properties from his playing days.

I agree. Teams running out from under the main stand always looks good to me. I’d love to see the back of that daft looking Wendy house in the corner too. It’s always looked a bit embarrassing to me. I’d also get rid of the club shop corner - it can go in the new Churchmans development between the cafe and a new Wetherspoons outlet called the Drum and Primate. The vacant corner can then have seating, maybe for the away fans, instead of having them down the other end. Ok the view might be poorer, but who cares.

I'm not sure what likelihood there would be on getting planning permission for a hotel right next door to the one that is currently being built on site for Travelodge? I know it would be a different clientele, but would that sway the planning officers? It would be good to re-route the players way onto the pitch from the dressing rooms to come out between the two new dugouts - that would also serve to separate the benches further, but doesn't seem to have been included in the submitted plans, which is a shame.

would there be room to flip the whole pitch through 90 degree so it becomes east/west facing? you could have a main stand with new office changes rooms etc on the south side with the 'main entrance off Russell Way

Didn't know about the Travelodge, but I'd have thought planners quite keen to encourage new business in the area uplifting it? esp given that as you say, clientele would be v. different. Agree re your re-route comments.

I don't understand why the corner entrance means anything like quaint or outdated - it's quite a common thing in a number of grounds like Old Trafford. What goes on when you get down that tunnel is what makes us look backwards as the behind the scenes stuff on that side of ground is years out of date

Well apart from it being a bit of flapping tent instead of solid structure, with a depiction of a doll's house behind it ... amazing that MUFC haven't yet copied those features ...

And Man U used to come out from the centre of their South Stand. I was there for the cup win in the 70s, the year they got relegated I believe.

I shouldn't think the players give a **** about entering the pitch at a corner rather than from the side. They appear to get their bearings quickly, nobody looks disorientated by it. What matters to them is the quality of the dressing rooms and having them in the corner does not affect the quality. Also if you get embarrassed by looking at the ground security control boxes, you can always move to where you can't see them.
