Can't leave things be can we? Couldn't just see the old boy on the news and give him a bit of a cheer and make a donation to a good cause.
Oh no, gotta go to all sorts of lengths and harass him and make him some star and then drag him off on a several hour journey at that age for a holiday he probably didn't even want. |  |

He did have pneumonia though for a few weeks after his trip which can't have helped his immune system and probably increased his and his carers contact with others, exposing him more to the chance of covid. You have to think it was an ill advised trip, but hey, if it's what the old boy really wanted as one of his last experiences, then it's his choice... |  | | |

BA gave him and his family (5 in total I believe) a free holiday Inn Barbados.
It was a awful idea regardless of whether it was the direct cause of his pneumonia before the current bout of covid.
Hope he pulls through and all is fine.

Indeed.
BA also weren't forced to offer. It's clearly a publicity stunt for them so I do think they should shoulder the majority of the blame. Not many people who are 100 are going to turn down an all-expenses holiday in Barbados, no doubt in first class and a nice hotel.

The NHS isn't a charity, we shouldn't be celebrating people fundraising for an institution that suffered a decade of cuts as heart-warming (or not) as the individual acts of generosity might be.
It was far less than this government has pissed up the wall on track and trace or unusable PPE too. |  |

As Tom is 100 he realistically doesn't have too long to go so I hope he enjoys it & his demise doesn't become a media event.
