Relegation and retribution 08:24 - Apr 23 with 972 viewsmuccletonjoe

The worst season in ANY supporters memory draws to an inevitably depressing conclusion of 4 consecutive defeats, compounded by the unexpected promotion of our local rivals up at carrow road.
Support for our manager has bordered on desperation since the new year.
Stoked by Lamberts almost constant praise of their "Not normal" attitude toward relegation, whilst both management and fans are seemingly oblivious to what is actually being played out in front of them.
The odd game ( or period of a game to be precise ) has seen the football improve.
But neither the style of play or the flair and energy which produced it have been repeated with any consistency, which cannot be said of the formation and tactics which has and still is firmly come to rest within an unworkable 433 system that the manager continually tries to manoeuvre the team into playing.
After 7 months which has seen the club's fortunes go from a nose dive into a crash landing into third tier football, it would be nice to think the worst is now over and at a lower level , we do still have a team capable of mounting a serious bounce back promotion.
Time now to relieve ourselves of the old guard, who have stood us in good stead these past few seasons and look to start afresh.
To implement a new system which suits our younger players and hope that the experience of playing together at a higher level will be rewarded.
To sign a striker who will provide us with the 20+ goals we are going to need to challenge for promotion.
To have a pre season where EVERYTHING is miraculously addressed and we come out of the tunnel a completely new team.
Or are we REALLY on the right track to do that??
.....wait and see.

1963-4 was even worse, Losing 10-1 to Fulham, 9-1 to Stoke, 6-0 to Bolton, 6-0 to Arsenal, 6-0 to Liverpool, 2-7 at home to Man Utd and so on.......We conceded no less than 123 goals over the 42 matches. And yes, I do remember that campaign.

Expectation has to be tempered because of the degree of work required to turn all this round. I’m hopeful that by the end of the season we might at least be flirting with the play offs and anything better looking forward from now would be a bonus

Maybe but we won twice as many games.

Bolton were relegated as well that year.

Poll: how many changes to starting 11 v Wcombe

I don't remember that season, but obviously some do. Whether even that was worse than this one is debatable. We only went down to the second tier at the end of it. Plus we actually won more games. As we now know , a new and exciting young manager took over a few years later and the rest is history.
What we would give now for amother one.

and this season it is possible that 43 points is going to be enough to stay in the championship. Even when the budgies went down it was with 46. Such a poor season, we won't even make 30.

Not making 30 is a damning reflection on this season. Let's hope it never gets any worse.
