Um, if you read the thread, Paz, and engage your brain (which may hurt if it's your first time trying it), I was merely asking the name of a plant. Nothing more.

I know you think phrases like 'bumboys' and 'picanninies' are fine and bantz and not at all bullying, so didn't think you'd mind me asking a Gardeners' Time question.

I'm not sure which part of that you disagree with. It may not be nice for you to hear, but it's 100% accurate I'm afraid.

I have to confess I have been at the Freixenet this evening, I was quite confident I could hold my own in a Kingfisher vs Cobra battle of wits.

But realise I have gone off a bit cocksure with this red wine with curry thing. I quite like a pretty hefty Portugueses Dao with a Rogan Josh, and that isn’t in either category, that I chose!

Crikey this has been a learning experience for the next time I am over stocked with bubbly drinks in pandemic induced lockdown leading up to a national holiday.

All I've done is ask you to explain what I've posted in this thread that's false or is a fact I've distorted. Seems you're unable to do that.

The fact that you posted that, and have come out with yet more snide digs about my supposed "disappearing" or "running away" (in addition to dozens along the same lines you've posted during other arguments you've created over past years) highlights just one of the problems. I, and other posters, have pointed out too many times to count, that nobody stays on here 24/7 because we have to eat, drink, work etc etc etc. A couple of posters observed that you seem to be obsessed about it in relation to myself.

On this occasion I went to great pains, twice, to point out to you that I was absent for 30 mins to read (20 mins) a long twitter thread, then post an update on it (10 mins). Yet you come back several hours later to chuck the same ridiculous jibes at me, having wilfully ignored what I'd said.

"Not sure what you don't get about ..." is a phrase that's used on here regularly - slightly tactless yes, but no one gets upset about it like you do, let alone causes a row about it like you do - it's standard internetz.

I've explained some of your distortion in this thread before, plus why I tend to choose the short form in reacting to you - again, you just ignored that. You have a genius for spinning rows out of diddly nothing - I've just read a thread from this October where a dozen other posters referred to your propensity for arguments (please don't get upset, most were in an affectionate & understanding way), particularly re a thread earlier in the year where you argued against about 20 other people who were all pointing out that potatoes don't constitute one of the recommended 5-a-day veg or fruit. Yet you refused to listen to any of them, insisted on continuing to argue the toss, and after many hours & several pages of the thread, deleted your account.

All of the above is why I consider my writing out a detailed account for you of what you posted that was distorted/false (which would probably take me at least half an hour) would be a waste of my time.

You had me on ignore, then took me off - I wish you hadn't. I had you on ignore but given the snide digs I saw you kept posting about me whilst I was logged out, felt I had to take you off, simply in order to defend myself. Now, just leave me alone please.

Suspect in the hardest hit areas NHS is already at breaking point.

A friend, a few days ago, was woken up at 10 pm and transferred from Peterborough Hospital to Hinchingbrook as they needed the bed. He had been there five weeks, tumour on his spine which only came to light when he collapsed paralyzed from waist down. So much haste that they sent his personal possessions down by taxi the next day.

That's horrendous in every way, so sorry to hear about your friend Pinewood. As tho his medical condition weren't bad enough. Terrible times.

You have got this all arse about face. So many inaccuracies it's astonishing.

1. I've explained why I accused you of downarrowing and running away - it was more the downarrowing and not responding to points made. If you haven't got time to respond then maybe don't have time to downarrow everything either - because that LOOKS like you can't respond and are just avoiding. I've explained this.

2. Again you're admitting you started the row but are doubling down by saying it's just standard internetz. I know you don't believe "It's just the internet" is a reasonable excuse because usually you are a reasonable person. I was trying to help - show how this woman did have other options - and you tried to belittle me for it.

3. Why on earth are you reading threads from October?! To try and bring up something to discredit me?! Jesus. You've got the original all wrong anyway - it was ME who was saying potatoes don't constitute one of the recommended 5-a-day. If it isn't embarrassing enough that you've gone back and re-read a thread from a couple of months ago, you've got that the entire wrong way round anyway!

4. "You had me on ignore, then took me of" is a hilarious comment given it's you who continuously claims to put me on ignore then take me off.

The absolute cheek that you have this long rant about me, full of inaccuracies, and then have the gall to ask me to leave you alone, so I have no right of reply.

This thread has nothing to do with any arguments you want to drag up (and get wrong) from the past. It was about me trying to help out and you not liking that for some reason - even putting in imaginary barriers like Amazon might not be as quick in Birmingham.

Instead of doubling down and getting more wrong, why not just apologise for your tactless and patronising response to someone offering solutions? Then maybe we can all move on. I know you're a decent person deep down so I hope you'll take this opportunity.

Well as someone who knows a little about mental health and the impacts of what happens when people "off themselves" as you so eloquently put it, I disagree.

Yes peoples wellbeing matters and we need to protect people. But this virus is the single biggest health emergency we have seen in modern times, so the rulebook goes out the window and we do what is needed.

Look at Australia and NZ now they took the pain, did what was needed and on the whole are now having a great almost normal time.
[Post edited 19 Dec 2020 17:10]

It also needs to be managed from the start, surely the worst thing for people mental health is to tell them in March it will be over in 12 weeks, to then say in the summer things will be back to normal by Xmas, to say a week and half before Xmas that you will be seeing families, etc, etc

Over promising and under delivering constantly, each one a hammer blow to those with mental health issues, rather than try and manage it honestly and properly

Agreed. Johnson seems desperate to try to put off taking unpopular decisions & is then forced into taking them at the last minute, leading to the endless flip flopping. Announcing the rules for Xmas on 24th November was absolutely bone headed as it was highly likely it might be advisable to tighten these rules over the ensuing month & can only have been done out of misplaced desperation to produce some good news to a country in lockdown.

It is about communication (clear and decisive) and leadership (fronting up and setting an example). It is actually very easy to get right regardless of the issue (Brexit/Covid/Terrorism).

It is a joke we are so poor at this, forget politics and which side you support, we just need some decent leadership. There must be some normal, successful really people out there who could do the job than the jokers like Johnson, May, Corbyn etc.

I don't know if it's just an age thing, but modern UK politicians do seem remarkably poor. While I never voted for his party, I would imagine that the (now often reviled) Tony Blair would have made a far better job of dealing with Brexit, COVID etc etc.
