That’s a bit daft. The Labour Party grew out of the Trades Union Movement.
The whole idea of trades union sis to get better working conditions for its members. That’s a natural fit with what Labour should stand for.
I am surprised that you follow a team that plays in blue! Your vision must be colour blind as your views are so one sided as to deny any other opinion to be valid. It makes me feel so sad that supporters of such a great club, that I have supported for over my lifetime, can be so intolerant when people have different views and cannot express them without attracting abuse.

Billingtons' sugar will be easy to replace; Asda mobile PAYG, Sainsburys, Ocado & Dorset Cereals Simply Oats Granola less so!

But as Tate & Lyle and Silver Spoon are also on the list will Billingtons be so easy to replace? Although the real answer is to cut out refined sugars and get it all from fruit anyway.
I guess the Dorset Cereals can be replaced by Jordans or Co-op own brand in my case.
Sainsbury's I have gone right off in recent years so that is not a problem for me, I think it is something to do with their orange colour scheme and it's interrelation with large scale florescent lighting that is having an adverse effect on my ageing eyes. That and almost a hundred pounds worth of Nectar points being cancelled when I was out of Britain for a few months, oh and them closing down their mobile phone operation at very short notice with the result that I lost the number I had held since my first mobile phone.

Oh dear, esp re Sains. Yes, the quality of their fresh veg in particular I've noticed has gone right down in recent months, tho some of that may be outside their control with sources being more limited now than ever.
Have just looked in my cupboard, have a half-full bag of Waitrose own brand, fully Fairtrade compliant, unrefined Demerara cane sugar, which is what I'm using at the mo & which is lovely, esp in coffee, so will stick with that. Also an untried as yet small jar of Vermont organic maple sugar.

Feck me! You don't by any chance have a non palm oil teacake recipe on yer?
'fraid not, but I volunteer every week at a local craft fair and get to take home some of the cake that is unsold at the end of the day so very rarely bake my own cake. I did go to a premiere of the film 'Tawai' in which 'Tribe' star Bruce Parry rails against the environmental destruction wrought by palm oil plantations in Malaysia. In the Q&A session that followed a local Scots woman was very vocal about how we should all buy Tunnocks tea cakes instead of what we buy at present to solve the problem and that is what prompted me to check the ingredients.
On a positive note, Paterson's make a point of advertising their Ornag-utan friendly shortbread's palm oil free constitution. And it has the red light light for fat and sugar content so that might fill the pie gap too...

Good work Meekreech. About time someone had a word with that commie GB. Him and his hard-core left wing views make this board unusable at times

To be transparent, it is probably non ethical for any political party to receive donations as there is always a hidden agenda. But I guess they need the money from somewhere.

All those companies obviously believe that they can buy influence by donating to the Tories. The last few years has proven them to be right.
It not necessarily an indication of any alignment with Tory views. Airbus, for instance, were vehemently anti brexit and have been badly damaged by it.

Political donations are small in purely financial terms. Instead, I’d give parties this 5-10 million or whatever it is out of the public purse if it meant protecting and retaining the purpose of a representative democracy.
Political parties already get public money to operate (forget what it’s called and Google isn’t my friend looking for it). So there’s no reason the Tories or Labour need to be receiving big donations from private individuals and companies. Private donations could be capped at a more deomocratically accessible and responsible rate of say 50 quid.

About 40% of Tory donations in 2020 came from Russians. They are still taking donations from Russians, even during the Ukraine war.

Exactly why donations shouldn’t be as acceptable in the first place. This money is way too much about buying influence and/or receiving favours.
I know our FPTP system and resulting parties are a democratic embarrassment. But this stuff adds insult to injury.
It is a disgrace. First past the post is an apology for true democracy, however I don't think that PR would improve the bribery issue very much. It might even make it worse. We need state funded political parties.

To be fair, trade unionists and workers have been taking a kicking until the middle class also started to feel the effects of living costs.
Very true.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Why would Clinton Cards make individual donations to particular MPs? That stands out as especially suspicious. I can understand big businesses supporting the party overall to ensure the party of low taxation, high debt and minimal public services continues in power.

What is it you like about the Tories the best?
The open racism? The homophobia? The transphobia? The corruption? The incompetence? The ope spite directed towards anyone vulnerable? The criminality? The lying? The willingness to accept money from dodgy Russians?
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Do you support the donations from the arrogant trade unions who have been shown to be greedy beyond belief and unaware of the damage they do peoples lives. When they become responsible in their attitudes to people then you can complain about people who support a different point of view. There are also companies and individuals who donate to the labour party so please show us that list, or would that be against your argument?
I'm not against the Labour Party, so you'll need to do your own homework.

GlasgowBlue is a former Conservative Party member who is simply making a historically factual point in response to your post. You couldn't have got it much wronger!
