All these clubs having their pitch invasion and celebrating with the players on 23:30 - May 18 by Matt_Netherlands | No “only in Ipswich” is a pitch invasion happening at Portman road and rather than joining in, someone deciding to come on here a month later to moan about it whilst being jealous of a club who have just had one despite not yet being promoted. |
That’s a ready weird way to look at it. If I’d have gone on the pitch, I’d have been booed and then called a ‘selfish c***’ on here. Instead I listened to those who spent the week prior to the game pre-emptively moaning and thought ‘I’ll leave it as it’s not worth the aggro from other town fans and whilst it would be a nice memory for me, if it’s going to ‘totally ruin the day’ for other people, I’d rather just let them be and celebrate from the stands. A shame though’. Taking the mature road and not doing what I want is now being used against me? Odd take that.

All these clubs having their pitch invasion and celebrating with the players on 23:16 - May 18 by Zx1988 | You've got to admit that it's pretty sh*t on the away players though. You go through the emotion of the preceding 120mins and a penalty shootout, but the moment that final penalty hits the back of the net your focus has to be on getting off the pitch ASAP, because these days you can never be sure whether it'll be safe to remain on the pitch. (case in point being the utter d*ckhead who appeared to run onto the pitch with the sole intention of assaulting the linesman this evening) [Post edited 18 May 2023 23:25]

Someone near me went on the pitch with his young son on his shoulders, after telling him in the week up to the game that he would get on the pitch, strolled across from Cobbold Lower to SBRL, said young son hasn’t stopped going on about that since it happened and all the events before/after. Even recreating the pitch invasion on his football pitch mat in his room with his toy cars. So I’m told. Inspiring the next generation.

You're a kid - a youngster. You should have done what you wanted to do. Lucan advice - Do what you want to do, at FPR, in life or whatever. When you are on your death bed you won't be thinking about the the things you have done.

It's fun for the fans who just want to enjoy it, but it shouldn't happen. You know that really. It's called an invasion for a reason. Boring but true. [Post edited 19 May 2023 0:05]

The problem is that there's now a minority of idiots who ruin it and mean that we probably shouldn't allow them any more. Much like 'proper' fireworks, anyone who isn't wealthy or a pensioner being allowed to vote without difficulties, and reruns of 1970s Top of the Pops. [Post edited 18 May 2023 23:39]

There are idiots who crash cars and literally kill people, but nobody is calling for a ban on cars or booing others who drive them. Anyone causing trouble should obviously be dealt with. Take a hard line on them and you minimise the risk of trouble.

It’s not “Taking the mature road and not doing what I want is now being used against me?” that’s the issue as you well know. It’s the fact that, having made that choice yourself, you’ve come on here a month later to whinge about it, serving no purpose whatsoever other than to stir up again what was a divisive subject at the time. Some supporters didn’t want to take any possible risk that there may be any sanction against the club - points deduction, behind closed doors games next season etc. and stayed off the pitch. Some wanted the day to be all about them. But whatever they chose, nothing you rake up today will change that choice.

Has there ever been a points deduction given in the history of English football for a pitch invasion?

That’s not the point and you know it. If you had any concept of the history of British football you’d know there are many incidents that had ‘never happened before’. Right up to the point when they did happen, and the fallout on a human level, and for the game itself, was monumental. There’s another thread showing a ‘fan’ enjoying his god-given right to invade the pitch and knocking over the lino. You think Sheff Weds are currently taking the view ‘it’s no problem, there’s never any sanction against the club’? Or rather doing everything they can to identify the fan and hang him out to dry to show how it was a serious incident that they deplore and will not tolerate, because they are terrified of losing their place at Wembley? But the bigger point of this thread is you chose not to enjoy your two minutes of ‘look at me’, and are still bitter about that.

Classic TWTD. So despite every other team in the playoffs celebrating on the pitch this week, and me wondering we can’t do the same, I’m getting sh*t despite not even going on the pitch? Superb. Also, you’re very wound up by this. Chill out bro. It’s only a football forum and it’s only a topic about celebrating promotion inside some white lines or by some blue seats. Calm down I’d say rather than lobbing out the insults left, right and centre.

Once again, Rommers, you seem to be into your usual MO of posting a thread designed to rile people up, and then refusing to engage with anything that challenges your point of view, instead opting to insult other posters and accuse them of overreacting. It's getting a bit wearisome.

Just out of interest what do you think you would/could have gained from going on the pitch and celebrating that you didn’t get from celebrating from the stand? I think what is being used against you is not “taking the mature road” as you put it but the sheer bed wetting that you and others are doing every time another team has a pitch invasion since our last home game. If you want to take the mature road then let it go FFS you’re an adult!

And the fear of public shame. Plenty of people on here called out the fun police Rommy. Some people are rule followers to such an extent they will literally invent scenarios to scare off others from doing what they disapprove of. Puritans who have a fundamental dislike of those who wish to have fun. The answer is simple of course, go and have some fun, and then some more. The sort of people who object to kids doing wheelies, to younguns riding e-scooters, to swearing in footie songs or fans standing up in their seats, to people driving at 71 mph on a dual carrageway or to undertaking, to motorbikers filtering or cyclists taking a red light, to loud music, to modern music... Fck em and their puritanical bollox. Fck their rules and fck their trying to shame anyone who values freedoms and values diversity over compliance. You want to get wasted, get wasted. You want to run on the pitch and celebrate then what's stopping you? Let them boo, then stand in on the centre circle, arms apart and give them a massive fck you. Someone will tell you are selfish but to me it is they who are selfish, expecting everyone to conform to their view of the world and also be a boring tw*t is what is selfish. I may have gone a bit ott in this post (apols to the puritans) but you get the point. Why let anyone tell you what to do if you are not hurting anyone? Tell em where to go, it's quite fun. And if you really want to annoy them, just get a motorbike and rag the tits off it. Just because you can 😎

This is the first time I’ve mentioned a pitch invasion on this forum or elsewhere in my entire existence. I did chuckle at a couple of the threads pre-emptively moaning before we’d even been promoted though. Those ITK will know that MA already said he’s happy to pay the fine, he really didn’t care if 29k went on the pitch. But they ‘have’ to say the right things in public. As it was I hope everyone that went on had a blast, my memory of the Bolton pitch invasion will be with me forever

Funny thing is I don’t feel that strongly either way. I’d have liked to have had our moment. I imagine 20 years supporting the club without a promotion would’ve been somewhat more celebrated but hey ho. But what is funny is how I’m being accused (6 times now in this thread) of being insulting or disrespectful) when I’ve been the one receiving insults. Perhaps they ought to live and let live. Of course my old mucker Zack98 or whatever his name is, is straight in there taking his chance too I see. Suggestion that I’m a troll despite having posted on here for 10 years now and not once having been even given a warning from Phil. [Post edited 19 May 2023 8:48]
