One of the very few journalists over recent years to try and hold power to account and cover UK politics with integrity and objectivity. Which of course immediately disqualifies him as a lobby journalist or as one of the inane broadsheet pundits pushing a narrative.
He’s been clear-eyed on Brexit, Johnson, Corbyn and any number of issues domestic and abroad that we’ve otherwise got ourselves in a damaging mess about.

In spite of his Brexit views and the fact he has worked as a journalist for both The Mail and Telegraph he is a very clear headed thinker and makes some excellent points. His attempts at holding up a torch to the lies of politicians is to be commended.

It is a very good book, although it loses a bit of momentum at the end.
On policies, I disagree with most things he says, but he is completely straight and honest, and he is to be valued highly for that. And tbf, he has had the decency to say that he was largely wrong about Brexit.

Yes, this was very good.

Clear eyed on Corbyn? In 2018 he was calling Labour under Corbyn "a party of Momentum, anti-Semites and Marxists"
He also lost a lot of respect from people when he became an Assad apologist.

Will the Real Peter oborne please stand up. Is it the Daily Mail one or the reinvented liberal one?
He can be both. Like all of us.
People on here and elsewhere frequently regurgitate narratives, accusations and opinions. And they can come to a different view if they look closer at the factual evidence.

I suppose that was what I was getting at. There's the added consideration that he may also have been under pressure to report utter balls when writing for the Mail.

Soi you are saying he has no integrity and will write any old nonsense at the behest of his employers?
Would the Mail have forced him to be an apologist for Assad's war crimes though?

I've no idea about his integrity, but presumably he'd be expected to write more sensationalist stuff for the Mail? Or vice versa, the Mail may have been a natural home for some of his views I suppose. This is it; he's been on an interesting journey with some quite opposing views.

He resigned as chief political commentator of the Telegraph in 2015, because they were allowing their news content to be influenced/dictated by companies who paid for advertising.
