Probably the only viable answer to dealing with this sort of thing is: 1) Education, giving people a well-rounded view of the world (which is not the same as telling them what to think - that's what these people do*) and 2) The media to stop undermining confidence as a means of generating custom. The mantra of "always question authority" has been turned around to digging up every bit of dirt in order to sell papers. They aren't asking important and effective questions about policy, just creating an atmosphere where "all politicians are corrupt" and there is a prevalant atmosphere of resentment against any kind of government. That has created a vacuum of trust into which these peddlers of strange and contrived views have flowed. Aided by lucrative self-promotion platforms like YouTube.
* Having whatched a bit of US TV, including while over there, I was shocked at the browbeating, in-your-face, tell-you-what-to-think style of both Fox and CNN. I guess it's what they're used to, but very different from the BBC/ITV/C4. Doesn't encourage critical thought within the mainstream. So people go outside it - but still accept the mode of delivery. |

I'd seen him on Twitter previously but was quite obvious he was a mad racist and conspiracy person so just made a mental note to ignore him - rerally haven't seen very much of him at all though. This is only about 3rd or 4th time he's popped up into my conciousness |
Still inexplicable that it's acceptable to say:
- Muslims are not like us
- Muslims see the world differently from the rest of us
- British Muslims are becoming a nation within a nation

There was a fairly popular subreddit (for those unfamiliar with reddit, essentially a forum) that was basically racism and antisemitism but was spread by using child like language and calling Jews "clowns".

I agree. That is one of the evils of turning schools into exam-passing machines to compete in league tables. They are essentially crammers and there aren't the time or resources to devote to more rounded intellectual development (however much teachers may want to). |  |

A similar analogy to make here, a lot of people noticed on here when suddenly left of centre people on here were being called "libtards", which comes almost entirely from 4chan. This stuff spreads quickly, and I doubt the people using it on here were /pol/ readers. | |

That is one of the most prevelant and pernicious themes in a lot of this: "...take away from us ..."; the idea that other people being allowed to do stuff (often far away) somehow prevents those who wish carrying on their lives in a more traditional format.
Reddit is a weird place. Much of it innocuous, or even useful (e.g. IT problem solving groups), other parts a cesspit of vileness. A microcosm of the internet, I suppose. | |

It's just a place where you can make a forum. I have issues with their admins as I think for far too long they let communities fester and didn't want to ban them but they have been slightly better recently.
