| The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

Middlesbrough fans suing police for unfair detention on 10:57 - Jan 3 with 1126 views | kizaitfc | For me the police and stewards at football matches suddenly have a major power trip. Outside the ground they are often lovely and polite the minute you walk through that turnstile they seem to turn into dictators with no common sense. I remember seeing fans flung out for standing up despite the fact they were at the back of the stand with no-one behind them. I also hate seeing stewards pushing supporters away when celebrating a goal and getting far too aggressive.

Middlesbrough fans suing police for unfair detention on 10:59 - Jan 3 with 1109 views | GeoffSentence | The police do exceed the boundaries of common sense and plain decency sometimes. I have been herded into a tube station after a game with West Ham when I was living local to Upton Park and walking home was the most sensible option. No amount of explanation would do for the intransigent copper. I was also prevented from using the loos at the Goldstone Ground even thoough I had the squits, but the old bill wouldn't let any Town fans off the terrace until the Brighton fans had gone. Those are pretty old examples and I have not really had any argument with them since, so hopefully they have improved but the fact that 'Boro fans feel strongly enough to go to court suggest otherwise.

There are certainly occasions when that is correct. I very nearly got forced onto a train at Norwich despite my car being 400 yards down the road parked at a B&B I had stayed at overnight. That said, in all my years of going to football at just about every level, I have readily been able to avoid any major issues with the police or even stewards...

It's not relevant here but I remember as a kid, Town and Arsenal fans leaving Wembley walking peacefully alongside each other, when a few coppers on horseback decided for themselves that some fans needed separating, driving their horses through a crowd of people who had been minding their own business, and pissing off plenty of them needlessly. You'd like to think attitudes have changed since those days.

'Outside the ground they are often lovely and polite the minute you walk through that turnstile they seem to turn into dictators with no common sense.' Change one or two words and you could be talking about football fans.

Would agree but only a select few, stewards and police seem to generalise all football fans as hooligans

Subconsciously probably they do. That's the fault of the ones that are.
