Amazing to sit back and try to comprehend that there's all these young lads who get scouted and the drafted to the NBA and even when you've got players at the very top of their game, one man can simply stand head and shoulders above still...and I've not mentioned Michael Jordan yet either, who is a hop, skip & a jump above Scotty Pippin.

Superb documentary, leaves plenty to be read between the lines about Jordan whilst showcasing the extraordinary talent he possessed and what it takes to be a top competitor.

Sounds good. Can't pretend to be a big basketball fan but the same is true for Formula One and I loved the two Netflix series about the people and personalities behind the largely dull races.
Is this similar in the sense you don't have to love the sport at all? |  |

It makes it very accessible for anyone with an interest in sport or simply 'achievement' as a concept. Heavy emphasis on the personalities involved and, like all good sports documentaries, limits the amount of the basketball you see to just important bits. | |

I was a big Orlando fan so seeing them in 95 was nice. Penny Hardaway was my favourite for some reason so would have been nice to hear from him.
Brought back loads of nostalgia for Pippen, Payton, Malone and loads other players for the 18 months when basketball was the big phase at school around that time.
Loved how flawed we get to see MJ is and how brilliant. It's made me really appreciate the sport too and understand it much better. Still can't get over how many cigars they all get through. |  |

I watched it and enjoyed it but given Jordan had the ultimate say as to what went in I don't really think it can be accurately described as a documentary if you put it up against for example the OJ documentary and some of ESPN's 30 for 30 output.
It was never directly critical you had to read between the lines to understand this. The gambling, bullying and poor treatment of Krause (who died in 2017) also needs to be mentioned.

Update: Binge watched the first three episodes and it's been superb. Thanks to you and the others for selling it in.
I like the way they weave the history and the characters together. In the Robson documentary I thought the jumping back and forward was a bit unnecessary but here it helps build the story and give individuals the time to be developed in their own right. | |

To me, it highlights that you can have the ability, like MJ, but what made him great was that mental strength, belief and commitment to work hard. He could deliver when it really mattered. [Post edited 21 May 2020 16:29]
